Poll: How to handle photo, movie and music limits.

Over the past several months we have received feedback from TotSites members asking for a “storage space” limit instead of a “photo count” limit. Originally we chose to use the total number of photos since it is a more up-front and clear way to manage your account.

Since we introduced music and video earlier this year, it is becoming increasingly clear that it might make sense to change the way we handle “limits” for TotSites.

Benefits of “total storage space”

  1. You decide how to allocate your space. If you would prefer to upload 10 songs and 15 videos with less photos, that is your choice.
  2. If you ever reach the point where you ran out of storage space, you would have the option to simply add more for a nominal fee.

Benefits of “Set limits”

  1. No change is needed. Your accounts would work exactly the way they do now.
  2. A simpler way to manage your account. You know exactly how many photos, movies or music files you can upload.

    This change will affect everyone.

    If TotSites moves to disk space limit, it will allow the *average user* to upload more photos to their account (including Free TotSites users). The additional benefit for Premium members is the flexibility of adding any combination of photos, movies, and music.

    Most TotSites members will realize a positive benefit from the change. We just wanted to gather a consensus before making a change that will affect everyone.

  3. I am a premium member and have not hit the limit yet… but wanted to add my opinion here. PLEASE change to disk space where I can allocate the usage. I post my daughter’s photos here weekly and would be heart broken if I hit some sort of limit due to the number of photos (especially since I take the time to make each photo a low-res image, lowering the file size.) The reason I chose totsites was because of the photo capabilities; I’d hate to have to look elsewhere if I were to hit a limit.

  4. **UPDATE**

    The next time you login to your TotSite and upload photos/movies you will notice we moved to a “storage space” model. Based on the Poll most of you preferred this option.

    If anyone has any comments regarding this change please contact support.

  5. Awesome change! Thanks ;) I was considering switching to another free site that is set up this way, but liked some of the other features of totsites better. Now there is no reason to switch!

  6. I think the storage space limit is much better than number of photos, however I cannot find anywhere what are the storage space limits for members and average users?
