My Son Bailey
I would write a story, your life I would describe
Of the battles that you fought in, and the dangers you survived
But the pain that this has caused me, plus the tears which sting my eyes
Have stopped me in mid sentence, a thousand dozen times.

This life is in my memory, one day I might re-tell
When the grief no longer cripples me, and with joy my heart shall swell
Your life is shining testament to what God's love can be
And love is what you gave us, your sister, mum and me.

Love came from every pore of you, without a string in sight
A love without a price tag, a love so just and right
You stand out like a beacon, in a world of hate and strife
And everyone who knew you, was richer for your life.

You bear the names of soldiers, who served before you came
But the honour you deserve today is every bit the same
You entered every battle with the same unyielding grit
And every hand that pricked you, you kicked and punched at it.

There's nothing more to prove my son, you're with the Lord to rest
But I never met a match for you, that ever was your best
So listen to the Lord my son, and learn what He will teach
And we will love you always, til we are in your reach

Now to God we give you, we bid you fond farewell.
Your life is just beginning, as in God's house you dwell
Your pain has surely left you, you're free to run and play
But rest assured we'll come to you, some day my son, some day.
God bless you wee man.
