27 Weeks
posted on 12/05/2006
Today I am 27 weeks 1 day pregnant. Things have started to get a little uncomfortable, but not unbearable just yet. I've had some lower back pain the past couple of weeks off and on. I knew this would eventually happen, but had hoped that I would get by a little longer without it. Sunday night I had some unusual quick pains and then I had them again on Monday morning. When I called the doctor's office, the nurse informed me that Karys now weighs enough to press on some of my nerves, which can cause a shooting pain through my stomach and elsewhere, depending on where she might be pressing. Luckily it didn't last too long and she is still in there squirming about and getting stronger by the day.
Other than that, things have still been pretty good. It does take me a lot longer than it used to for simple tasks, such as getting out of bed or off the couch, putting my shoes on and taking them off, picking things up that I drop, etc. I feel so clumsy lately it's just crazy! Tim actually had to paint my toenails the other week because I can no longer reach them!! He did a pretty good job, but this Friday I'm going for a pedicure for my work Christmas Party on Saturday night :) I don't think Tim realized he'd get new "jobs" when I became pregnant - such as painting my toenails, taking my boots off, helping me off the couch, etc. He continually laughs at me as I struggle and so then I start laughing because I know how ridiculous I must look! :) I feel so imcompetent sometimes! It's been a great experience thus far though.
Lately I've been able to see her and feel her press against my stomach with different parts of her body, rather than just kicking. Tim and I have fun trying to guess which body part of her we are feeling when she does that. We can't help but laugh because she is so active at night and we are always so amazed at how much stronger she gets every day! We have our 3D ultrasound in 3 weeks on December 26th and we can't wait to see her!!
We finished painting the chair rail and have posted pictures of it. The nursery is coming along so great!! All we need is a little princess to put in it!! We can't believe that we're about to enter my 7th month of pregnancy already. Time is moving quickly and we've still got a few things to do before Karys makes her arrival. We can't wait!!
Happy Holidays!!

Tim & Steph

I'm officially 6.5 months today! March will be here before we know it!!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to spend a lot of time with family and friends. We also got a lot done in the nursery as well! Tim and I went and bought the letters for Karys' name to hang on the wall on Saturday. While we were at Babies R Us, we saw that the exact armoire we needed to complete the furniture set was marked down almost 50%!! Needless to say we could not pass up that deal! We also went and bought the chair rail for her room on Saturday as well. Tim was able to hang her name and some pictures in the nursery on Saturday and then on Sunday he and my dad were busy hanging the chair rail in the nursery! They did an amazing job!! Once Tim and I paint it to match the baseboards, I'll be posting pictures of it. I did manage to post new pictures of her name on the wall and some various photo's of the nursery though.
I'm also continuing to grow! The books all say that my belly will be growing about 1/2 inch a week from now until the end of the pregnancy....that is 6 inches! Wow!! She only weighs about 2 pounds right now and she's got at least about 5 more pounds to go - so I guess that makes sense. She has continued to move and kick throughout the days and more people are able to feel her now that she is so much stronger! We're very excited about that! Tim feels her on pretty much a daily basis now. We love to just lay and feel her move :) We cannot wait to meet her!!! I can't believe in just 14 more weeks she will be here!!
We hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday!!
Love,
Steph & Tim

We had our doctor's appointment today. I'm 24 weeks 3 days now. Dr Patronella said that everything looked great and I was measuring fine, my blood pressure was good and that the heartbeat was great. This was a pretty regular appointment. She also told us that we'd do another ultrasound towards the end of the pregnancy.
My next appointment will be on December 14th and I will be 28 weeks then and I have to take the glucose test to test for gestational diabetes. That will take an hour! Not fun... Also, after that appointment she told me I'll have to start coming every 2 weeks because I will then be in my 3rd trimester (at the start of 28 weeks). When she said that - it really hit me how far along I am getting and how close we are to approaching the end! It's a little scary but also really exciting too! Then, at 32 weeks they will do another blood test for anemia and she promised me that that will be the last one until I go into the hospital (she knows how I hate the bloodwork). So I guess I can handle that :)
We have lots of things coming up to look forward to in the coming months - the holidays, our birthdays, showers, the new year and the finally the arrival of our baby girl!

Lately our little girl has been extremely active!! She moves all day long - mostly in the mornings and at night though. I was in Denver this past week for work and on Wednesday night while I was taking a bath, my stomach moved!! It was her kicking. I thought maybe I was imagining it at first, but after several more times, I was 100% sure it was our little Karys kicking!
This past Friday, when I got back home, she started up again so I called Tim over to come see. Not only was he able to feel her move a lot but he also saw my stomach move from her kicking it! It was such an amazing thing to share together! We couldn't stop laughing and smiling!! He was so happy to be able to feel AND see his little girl move!
Then, on Saturday night, I went to my parents house and my mom, Rachel and Ashley were able to feel her move also!! They were ecstatic! We laid on the couch forever waiting for her to start moving and she finally did for them! I was so happy!
We can't believe that I'm already 6 months pregnant... It seems like time has gone by so quickly sometimes! I'm exactly 24 weeks pregnant today. Our next doctor appointment is Thursday afternoon and we also scheduled a 3D ultrasound for the day after Christmas. So we have a lot to look forward too!
So many people have given us so many great gifts for Karys already! The most recent was from her Uncle Joe and Aunt Rachel - a countdown to the birth and a little pink camo t-shirt! It's so adorable! We'll make sure to take pictures of her in it to send to her Uncle Joe :)
We can't wait to meet our daughter and we just seem to fall more and more in love with her every day!! We'll be sure to post some more pictures when Tim gets back from Chicago on Wednesday :)
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

This morning she was moving all around while Tim was still sleeping. I put his hand on my stomach so he could feel her and we waited and waited. Finally, she got the hiccups and he was able to feel her over and over! He was so thrilled and I was so excited that he was able to finally feel his baby girl with me! It was such a special moment for us to share together and I'm sure there will be many more the stonger she gets. Today I am 22 weeks 6 days pregnant.
I just started feeling her hiccup for the first time on Friday night. I was laying on the couch watching a movie when I felt her kick - only the "kicks" were to a beat and lasted for about 5 minutes and I realized that I was feeling her hiccup for the first time! I started laughing becaue it was just so cute! I've felt her have them every day since then too. She also moves constantly throughout the days and it's just the most amazing thing - I can't even begin to describe it. I just love knowing that she is in there and she is ours. We can't wait to meet her!
We also went to register this afternoon at Babies R Us. We know a lot of people were asking us if we wanted anything for the baby for Christmas, so we figured this was the easiest way that people could find out what we wanted or needed. It was a lot of fun registering, but it was also pretty overwhelming because there were so many items we hadn't thought of and so many choices of each product! Luckily my mom went with us to help us on things we didn't know much about! The Babies R Us registry is online and you can click over to it by clicking on the Registry page of this baby website.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

She has a name!!
Tim and I went through a lot of names this week and have fallen in love with Karys (pronounced like Paris, but with a K). Tim started calling her that and talking to her through my stomach and calling her Karys. So we're pretty sure that will be her name. Her full name will be Karys Elise Daugherty. It just fits and we feel really love the name.
Karys is Greek and means graceful. We realize a lot of people might not be too crazy about it at first since it is uncommon, but we figure it will grow on people. It's a really beautiful name and we're really happy with our choice! :)
Today makes 22 weeks 4 days! This past week our little one has been kicking me all morning and afternoon! She's getting so much stronger every day! She is extremely active during the days, but more calm at night. Tim hasn't quite felt her yet. There have been a couple times when he thinks he might have felt her but he wants to be completely certain. So hopefully she'll let her Daddy feel her soon though because he is super anxious!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

I felt her move last night - from the outside of my tummy!!! Tim didn't get to feel her though yet... I wasn't expecting to feel her but she kicked three times and on the 3rd time I put my hand there and my stomach moved!! I tried and tried to get her to move again but she decided to be a bit stubborn. Tim and I sat there forever with his hand on my belly and I even tried the flashlight again but nothing was working.
So she is strong enough to get her kicks felt from the outside of my tummy but Tim has yet to feel her. Needless to say we will be trying every day until he does!!! :) I was so excited!! I jumped when my hand moved because I only half expected to feel it. The kicks actually tickle me more than her moving around in me! It was so great to finally feel her from the outside though and it won't be too long before Tim is able to now for sure!! We just need her to cooperate!!! :)

It's only been about 2 weeks since we found out we're expecting our precious baby girl, but we've been super busy and productive! This past weekend Tim and I painted the nursery a pale pink. It looks beautiful with the new bed set that Nana bought us!! The room has such a soft and girly feel and I'm not near through with it yet! I've ordered several more items that will go in there as well - the matching canopy for above the bed and the matching clothes hamper are just a few of them. Tim has been out of town this week but he comes back today and we'll move the rest of the furniture back and take some pictures and post them on the website for everyone to see. It's such a beautiful room!!
Today I am 21 weeks and 2 days pregnant. And our little girl has become quite the mover!! Last night I was laying on the couch and was wanting to feel her move. I haven't noticed her moving around a lot the past couple of days because my routine is all off since Tim is out of town. So I had read that by this week of pregnancy, babies are able to detect light if you put a flashlight to your belly. And so I decided to try that. And it worked like a charm!! She moved A LOT!!! It was amazing how she responded to it. She is so much stronger than she'd been just last week. I can't feel her from the outside of my stomach just yet, but she's almost there because it was way more powerful than before. Tim is excited and anxious to get to feel her too and at this rate he won't have to wait too much longer!!
Things have been great lately too! I've been feeling really upbeat with a little bit more energy than in the past few weeks. Things are starting to fall into place and we've begun discussing names again for our little girl. We've pretty much got it narrowed down so we'll announce it officially shortly I'm sure!
I'll be posting another belly picture and some pictures of the nursery this week too so keep checking!
We hope everyone has a great Halloween! We're planning on doing some pumpkin carving ourselves this weekend! :)
Love,
Steph & Tim
