Running the gauntlet...
posted on 10/01/2009
Last night was gymnastics night and we had a fabulous time until...Will decided to bolt. He is so darn fast and he was out of our area quicker than I could catch him. He ran straight to where the older kids were practicing hula hoops. (they do those to build their stomache muscles and to increase stomach flexibility)
He was about 2 steps ahead of me when he go to the hula hoop area and I could see it coming. He ran straight into it...the gauntlet. The hoops around the older kids hips were about his head height and as he ran through he looked like a pinball. BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM!!! One would hit him on one side of the head and knock him into another to hit him in the other side of the head. By the time he got through the gauntlet he had been pummelled by 6 hula hoops and had red welts all over his face. By the time I caught him, he looked up at me and began sobbing.
The rest of the time every time he went to escape, I would just have to say..."mommy doesn't want you to get hurt again" and he turned back quickly and played in our area of the gym. So, hope that was a lesson learned that will stick with him each week.
Nathan is getting very excited about the Lung Walk on Saturday. He has 28 people walking on his team and although we didn't make the $4,000 goal, I am proud of what our team has accomplished. We have collected enough money to send 10 kids to asthma camp for a day. That is HUGE!!!
