4 hours later...

We woke up Sunday morning planning to take the boys for their h1n1 shots at the fairgrounds. We planned to be back to town in time for church, so we packed lightly...a few snacks, a few books and a few drinks.
As we pulled in right around 9a Nathan was sobbing that he didn't want a shot. Will had no clue and was joyous, running around as we stood outside the building waiting our turn. About 2 hours into the wait, the boys were getting grumpy so I had Steve stand in line and I took them to an open area to play. Will fell asleep in my arms and Nathan and I made up a long story. He was Uno, Will was dos, Carter was tres, Carly was cuatro, Jack was cinco, James was seis, Andy Lou was siete and then a few more friends rounded out the top diez. About 2.5 hours into it, they said that they were running out and people behind a certain spot in line would have to leave. We were past that line so we got to stay. About 3.5 hours into it, they said they were running lower than expected and that more people would have to leave about that time we go to the area where they sorted regular people out and then put "medically fragile" people in another line. Because of Nathan's asthma and Will's kidney problems, they were sorted to the "medically fragile" line. About 3 hours and 45 minutes intot he wait, they said they were out of vaccine and would only have enough for the people in the "medically fragile" line. There were 7 of us in line at that time.

After all that, Nathan was peeking around the curtains and watching as the other kids getting shots were screaming. He just jumped around and said "can I please have my shot now?!" After that much waiting, he just wanted the shot and to get out of there!
A little after 1 (4 hours after the wait began) Nathan got his wish and got his shot. (remember he was crying in the beginning) Will on the other hand who was happy go lucky to start was now bawling. He was mad. Actually, he was downright angry.

We went on our way and had a story to tell. (oh, by the way, they have to get a second dose in 28 days) I will be better prepared for a long wait the next time. :)
