Bennett Mitchell Speck

JOURNAL

Day Twelve, 6:15pm
posted on 08/31/2007

Your prayers are being heard and answered - praise God!  According to the nurses, Bennett came through the curcuit switchover "like a champ," and his oxygen levels remained high during the entire switch.  The flow setting is still pretty high, but we were told this is to be expected for at least a couple of days to allow more time for his lungs to heal.  There was concern that he wouldn't adjust well to the change before it began, but so far he's doing well.

Also, the most recent chest x-ray showed more black (oxygen) in it!  This is also a huge praise, because just a few hours earlier it had been completely white (full of fluid/infection).  The larger diameter airway tube that was placed in Bennett around noon appears to be working, along with the antibiotics, and, obviously, your prayers to our Father on his behalf.

His bleeding, at this point, is still controlled.  He's urinating well, he's still pretty sedated because of the whole procedure, and they just performed another brain ultrasound.

It's been a long and hard day for our boy, but right now he seems to be resting peacefully and comfortably.  The nurses and Doctors all had smiles on their faces when they told us how he handled the procedure.  It's so comforting and encouraging to see those smiles, to say the least.

But the most comfort and encouragement continues to come from each of you.  Thank you all for your prayers, and we ask that you please continue lifting our son up before the Father.  He's come a long way, but he has a long road ahead still.

If more updates become available tonight, then we will update the website one more time.  If not, we'll see you all in the morning.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend.

Love,

Travis, Kelly, and Bennett

Yay for a good report! It is definitely God's hand at work that Bennett made it through the procedure like a champ and brought smiles to the doctors' and nurses' faces! You are in our continued thoughts and prayers. I want you to know that we have friends who are also praying for you. One of them asked me tonight, "How's Bennett?" because she hadn't had a chance to check the site today. Lots of love and prayers sent your way, and we will keep on sending them!

Blessed be the name of the Lord! Thank you, sweet Father for knowing exactly what we need and when we need it! Help sweet Bennett to sleep peacefully tonight while you are working on healing his lungs. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end - they are new every morning! Great is thy faithfulness! James Mayo is hanging out with us tonight and we are all singing this song after we read Bennett's good news! We love ya'll.

Praise the Lord for answering the prayers for those procedures. Way to go Bennett handling it like a champ!! Give him a big kiss for us! We will continue praying as he adjusts over the next few days. We were so thrilled to hear the update this evening, knowing that today had to be stressful for all of you. We are thanking God for the knowledgeable staff there in the NICU and praying for their continued care of little Bennett Speck and his friends. God bless you with peaceful rest tonight and strength for a new day tomorrow. We pray for another great report tomorrow morning. Love you guys. Good work today Bennett, we love you and are praying for you buddy.

Praise God for all things, but mostly today for Bennett and the good news. We pray hard each hour of each day. We love you Bennett, you are doing great! I think your fighting spirit should give your mommy some idea of what the terrible twos will be like...uh oh! :)
comment by Clint and Summer Best on 08/31/2007
Our prayers are with your family and especially for your precious baby, Bennett. It seems like there would be nothing worse that having to watch your sweet, innocent baby suffer... but what a comfort to know that a tiny little soul has touched hundreds, even thousands, of hearts... and he has that many prayer warriors lifting him up to our Almighty God... I know all of ACU is lifting him up and he is on the prayer lists of churches all over the country... May God give all 3 of you strength and may the peace that comes only from Him be with you every step of the way...
love
~Clint & Summer,
Micah, Coby, Cason, and Bryson Best

God is good isn't he Bennett? You are doing so well adjusting to the change. Let's get more and more oxygen in those lungs OK? You are showing the power of God to all those people in the hospital and to all the people across the world that are praying for you. God must think you are pretty special to have a job like that!
I love you!

This is SO exciting! I was rushing the computer guy at my new school to get my login up. He told me that I must have some serious email to get; I told him, "No, I have to get on my friends' website to make sure their son is doing well." I can't wait all day until I get home to check up! I hope you all have a restful Labor Day weekend and that Bennett continues to improve every second!

WOW...how wonderful it feels to cry tears of relief! I am so happy to hear all of this WONDERFUL WONDERFUL news! We really can't ask for anything better under the circumstances! That little guy sure has had a long day, but a great day. We started this day thinking there could really be some problems and setbacks, but it looks like Bennett was a champ and showed us he can handle it! What a mighty God we serve! You must be ecstatic!! I know I know...it is still little steps, but you know what, I think today he showed us he is ready to be done with this, and go home!!

Praise God.

Praise Our Good and Gracious Heavenly Father!!! May you continue to be encouraged, whether walking backward or forward, for the Lord is directing those very steps. I am so thankful, yet again, for your faith, your love for one another, your son and for each of us as we journey with you! Our God is so very magnificent, may none of us ever lose sight of that...! Have a most wonderful Labor Day weekend as there is one very small, but VERY precious boy who's body is laboring hard, but not alone!!! I love you all very much.

I know it's hard doing this balancing act, but I'm so glad y'all are hanging in there. I'm thankful for doctors and nurses you trust and who sound encouraging. As we know all good things come from the Lord, His hand in their lives and talents is a blessing, too. Thanks for continuing to let us know the highs and the lows. Keep giving God all the glory in all things. Will continue praying.
