Bennett Mitchell Speck

JOURNAL

September 13th - Day Twenty-Five, 9:00am
posted on 09/13/2007

Good morning, all.  I just spoke with Bennett's nurse and he had a good night last night after his "moment."  The x-ray showed the new tube to be in the correct place, and his latest blood gases were right where they wanted them to be.  So, right now he's doing well and we're very thankful for that.

I spoke with the doctor last night and she told me the plan as of right now is to continue to monitor his blood gases, continue suctioning him as needed, and essentially just wait for his lungs to heal and expand.  There are pockets of infection that remain on both sides of his lungs, and the surgery option has not been taken off the table yet.  They'd obviously prefer not to go the surgery route if they don't have to, so we're praying that his lungs will continue to rest and heal and start working.

When we have more updates we'll let you know.  Bennett is definitely enjoying his new "bassinet" in a new corner of the room, and anytime we see him it's so hard not to just lean down and pick him up and kiss him all over.  As I mentioned in the previous post, when we think back to one week ago today - his darkest hour so far - we are simply amazed and in awe of what God has done to heal our son.  Bennett remains critically ill, but we are so thankful that he is doing better and continues to show that fighting spirit.

Thank you all for your love and prayers.

Love,

Trav, Kell, and Bennett

Everyone all over Ezell-Harding, at Una, and in Antioch, TN is praying for Bennett. Bennett is indeed a very popular young fellow, and we have great plans for him to become a world wide gospel minister.... Perhaps he will have the opportunity to play basketball at Ezell-Harding and lead singing in chapel. So very proud of Bennett's parents. Your faith, and courage has been an example to us all. We love you guys. Mrs. Pruitt & all the Ezell gang

Day 25. WOW!!!. Wouldn't it be great if your marathon were going to be successfully completed tomorrow. Well...fortunately GOD will give you the strength to keep on going. This is not his first marathon even though it may be yours. You three are doing great!! Bennett we're all so proud of you. LORD PLEASE EXPAND BENNETT'S LUNGS AND HEAL HIM COMPLETELY SOON.
"But we have this earthen treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed , but not abandoned: struck down, but not destroyed...Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day...So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary , but what is unseen is eternal" II COR 4:7-18.
We love you.

Kelly and Travis: We were so thrilled to see you holding your sweet baby boy!
We thank God for the knowledge and ability that the staff in NICU can provide for Bennett. We just know that before long we are going to be reading that you can take him home.
Our prayers continue for you and Bennett.

We are so thankful that Bennett had a good night. We can only imagine your anxious moments last night. Again we are reminded how God supplies every need and uses the skills of the wonderful staff that is there to care for Bennett (and all of you, really!) Our prayers continue thru each day and night. The pictures are beautiful and bring tears to our eyes. Love you all.

I have been out of town for the past few days, and Boone has been keeping me up on Bennett's progress. Having just gone back and reread each and every entry, I am just amazed at Bennett's progress even though I shouldn't be as it is what we have all been praying for all along. Tears were in my eyes as I looked at the pictures of you two finally being able to hold your sweet boy! I will continue to pray that Bennett's progress continues and that there are MANY more moments for you guys to hold your little man! God is good, and I will be sure to praise him for all the miracles he has performed in Bennett's life while continuing to pray for his complete healing.

Love, Kate, Boone and Jackson

I just read last night's post. Such a scare. I am thankful that we have doctors and nurses to swoop in and stablize Bennett. They are almost like angels in those moments.

We pray continuously throughout each day for the 3 of you.

We have been out of touch without a computer, but keeping up with the progress through Christy and Amanda. What joy to see the progress in the last week, a true answer to prayers! And to see you holding sweet little Bennett in your arms was the most wonderful sight, now to just get him home! God's power has been shown in this little life and we will be bold to ask God to keep the healing going and bring Bennett perfect health. We love you all and will continue praying for your beautiful family.

I find that you all are constantly on my mind and in my prayers. I am so thrilled for you to finally be able to hold your sweet boy. We will continue to lift him up in prayer. I find myself loving on my baby girl a little more these days, and cherishing the simple moments at home. The day you bring Bennett home will be such an answer to prayer!! God is good, may He provide strength for all of you.

God is doing amazing things! Our hearts have been aching with joy from reading the past few entries and looking at the sweet photos of you guys holding Bennett - that is right where he belongs and we are so happy for you guys and the steps forward that have been taken. God is amazing and can do more than we can even ask or imagaine! We are praying for you always as this journey continues and for His mighty hand to uphold you and sweet Bennett. Love you...

I am glad Bennett had a good night and as I rejoice and send up praise prayers for how well he is doing I am also asking God to finish healing Bennett and to continue to strengthen you both. I am also asking him to send blessings down on you guys because your little family has been such a strong testament of God's great power.
