Bennett Mitchell Speck

JOURNAL

October 8th - Day 50, 7pm
posted on 10/08/2007

Bennett has had another good day overall.  He wasn't able to breastfeed, but he did take his highest dosage yet from the bottle.  He just has a lot to learn feeding-wise, so it may take some time.  But, overall, he's doing quite well and those cute little cheeks continue to become bigger and bigger!

Last night he was pretty agitated and they had to give him another dose of morphine, but they haven't had to give him any more so far today.  His sats and blood gases continue to be good, and his oxygen settings on the nasul cannula continue to be in the mid to low 20s.  This is all very good, but hey, it's what you'd expect for a baby who's now in "NICU 2" status, huh?!

Thank you all for your love, concern, and prayers for our precious boy.  He continues to do well, so we ask that you continue your prayers for his lungs, his right diaphragm, his feedings, and his neurological functions.

I don't have any update on Logan today, so please continue your prayers for him as well.  Whenever he's able, I know Bennett is looking over at him and shouting words of encouragement!

We'll plan to post again tomorrow.

Love,

Travis, Kelly, and Bennett

Thinking of you a lot. Bennett is a tough little fella and will end up well. Just a little slow start. We'll see him on the pro circuit in something one of these days.

He are so happy to hear how well Baby BeBe (as Rylee calls him) is doing. The new pictures were great. It looks as though Mere was a good sport about the whole "mustard" mess. We continue to pray for you all. Continue to try to nurse... it is such a blessing when you can. Thinking of you daily and we love reading the updates.

Last night he might have been missing all that attention from his TN relatives! You two are amazing parents and your love for God is such an inspiration to all of us. "Fairfax South" here in middle TN continues to lift your sweet family up in prayer. We love all the photos!

We are so excited about Bennett's intake, and I am sure he is just recuperating from hosting his TN family over the weekend by preferring the bottle. It takes a few visits to get this "hosting thing" down pat. We continue in prayer for stronger lungs, healing of the diaphragm, and adjusting to his new way of drinking. We are so amazed at what the Lord has done, and faithful that HE will continue to answer our prayers for Bennett's restored health. We are mindful of Logan and his needs. We ask God to protect him and to give wisdom to those who care for him. We pray for a restful night for all as we look forward to tomorrow. love and prayers

Hello friends! I am so happy to hear that he continues to do so well. I can imagine, Kelly, that you are really wanting to nurse. I totally understand. It has taken Claire eight full weeks to really get good at it. We brought her home doing only okay but she was taking a bottle wonderfully. So we just continued to practice at home and now, she doesn't miss a beat. I am praying for you and Bennett to be able to have the experience and for it to go very well. I am excited for you to be so close to bringing him home! Love you both! M

I am so, so thrilled to hear how well Bennett is doing. I SO enjoyed the pictures of sweet Bennett with the Speck family. He is beginning to meet all the people in the world who love him SO, SO much! I am so happy to hear he is taking to the milk and to breast feeding- what a blessing. I will continue my prayers for his continued healing for his lungs, neurological, functions, etc. I am asking over and over again for his complete healing. I know it is possible, God is so great!! I love you guys so much! Thank you for the pics, the posts and for being so incredibly strong and positive.

Love,

Yasmin
