Bennett Mitchell Speck

JOURNAL

One day at a time
posted on 11/08/2007

Well, Bennett continues to adjust to life at home.  Grammie has been over this week helping Kelly out, so that's been a big help for us.  Grana comes in from TN next week, so Bennett is getting some good time with both of his grandmothers.

His apnea clinic appointment on Tuesday went well, and we were reminded yet again just how grateful we should be that Bennett is alive and at home.  The doctor told us that Bennett is truly a miracle, and should be celebrated as such!  Also, the doctor noticed slight improvement in some of his tone (less stiffness in his hands in particular, and in his feet), so this was so encouraging to hear!

Bennett remains on several medications for his blood pressure and reflux, so no major changes have been made as of now.  His feedings are still pretty inconsistent (he'll eat more on some days and less on others), so the feeding tube remains in at this point.  Please pray that his daytime feedings increase more and more so that his feeding tube can finally be removed, and please pray that his reflux will go away!

Again, thank you all for your love, encouragement and prayers throughout all of this.  God has been good to us and has brought our son home.  His power and your prayers made that possible.

Love,

Travis, Kelly, and Bennett

Just a few words to let you know we think of you daily and Bennett and his parents are in our every prayer. I know how enncouraging each and every piece of good recovery news is to you. May each day be getting better and hopefully that tube especially be gone soon. I know both Grana and Grammie are treasuring each moment they have with the three of you, not to mention their loving help with any and everything you will allow them to do!! Take care and please know you are very much on our season's list of blessings we are thankful for and we pray for continued healing for Bennett and strength for all. Our love

I'm glad you have had help this week. Kelli, I'm sure it has been nice to finally have your baby home but I know it can also be exhausting. Our prayers continue for your whole family and that Bennett's feedings will get more consistent. We know God will continue to bless you all.

He looks like he is thriving! I laugh out loud at your photo captions! They are so appropro and funny. Thanks for keeping us updated--we love seeing your sweet family working through these early days away from the security of the wonderful NICU nurses. You remain in our prayers. Hello to Cilla next week. With two weeks of grandmother kisses and hugs, he will continue to thrive. We send love! Linda and Jerry AKA known as "Henry and Liza" (as Steve Blackman reminded us recently!)

The picture of Bennett's exercise time with Mommy is wonderful. God has blessed this miracle baby with two amazing, loving parents. Every child should be so lucky.

Rejoicing with you for each step of progress that Bennett makes. Your days and nights are busy, I'm sure, but filled with blessings. So glad you have family close and that Tenn is as close as those jets can make it!! Love to you all. Our prayers continue.

This made me think of Bennett and how he might enjoy a little sympathy of this sort. http://youtube.com/watch?v=zBSZn30OSsI
