Great week and a button
posted on 02/19/2009

Bennett has had a great, healthy week.  He has been sleeping well, is happy when awake, and has been eating his baby food via spoon very well~ lots of praises!  We are all so thankful to be unpacked and are slowly getting into some form of routine around here.

We did have a surprising appointment today.  We went to the pediatric surgeon at Vanderbilt to have him look at Bennett's PEG feeding tube and decide when to replace it with a button g-tube.  We walked in there, he took a look at it and said "I think I can pull it out and just put a button right in"......Bennett's mommy surprisingly asked "today?!?!".......and he answered "yes, let's give it a try" as he was putting on his gloves and getting his supplies ready.  Although B's mommy almost fainted right there at the thought, she gathered herself together, sang "Jesus loves me" over and over in his ear while the surgeon and his nurse did the procedure, and comforted B during his 5 minutes of wailing afterwards.  Thankfully he pulled himself together quite quickly and hasn't seemed to notice a difference all day.  Once again, NEVER A DULL MOMENT.

Bennett has visited some friends, went for a long walk around a local lake, and even went to church on Sunday, so it has been a good week and we thank God for that.

Wow! Yay for surviving THAT! I know all about those surprise procedures, and I haven't made it through one yet! (I leave, David stays. I am sure my time is coming when I am by myself... yikes!) And yay for a great week... you guys are rock stars. Love ya!

Yay for a button! I can't imagine keeping the tube for any longer than necessary -- what type of button did you get? Lauren switched back to a mic-key after her old one broke shortly after we got up here. You gotta love surgeons. They called ours up to look at her broken button, and he called them all wimps for not being able to get it out themselves.

It's always exciting, isn't it?

Kelly, I give you so much praise for being able to sit there during that procedure. Surely, I would have passed out and hit the floor! I can't even watch Brady have blood drawn.

So glad to hear the family is settling in and getting back into a routine. Kudos for Mr. Bennett for staying healthy this week!

Much love from the Antaya's

Kelly - so glad to hear you've had a healthy week!
I know you handled the 'surprise' procedure like the true pro that you are.
We were singing the silly "name song" tonight and the kids wanted to sing Bennett's name....bennett, bennett, bo minute, banana fana fo finnet... (I'll spare you the rest) You were thought of tonight - in a wired sort of way =)
love you!

Wow, I can't imagine how that must have felt when he said "today", panic! So glad to hear you all are settling in and getting out a bit. : )
