JOURNAL 12/23/2007David has been fed some rice cereal a few times over the past month. He does pretty well with a spoon. Somebody from the congregation gave us a fruit basket for Christmas, so Adam was cutting up some of the bananas and apples to put into the dehydrator we bought at the fall rummage sale at church. I thought we should let David try some banana in his rice cereal, so he got a small piece of banana mashed into his rice cereal. He loved it! Hopefully he didn't inherit his Grandpa Filipek's banana allergy, but so far so good. Since he liked that so much we figured we'd try feeding him a little of the baby food peas we have. He seemed to like that alright, but he was already full of his banana cereal, so he only ate a few bites of it. We'll try a little more peas tomorrow. He's a spoon pro! Comments (0) 12/21/2007 Nothing too exciting going on in Chester right now. We had a few inches of snow on Sunday, but it was melted and gone by Tuesday. We've gotten lots of Christmas cards, and they're taped to the basement door, and now the bathroom door. If we get many more they'll be taped to our bedroom door, too! We decided this is our version of Christmas decorations this year, because we just don't have room in the house for a tree, and we don't have the right types of front and back doors to put our wreaths on. David had an "accident" today. He was sitting in the jumperoo in only a shirt(onesie) and socks, no pants. I was out of the room doing something and I go back into the living room and there is poop on the floor underneath his left foot. Of course he's bouncing his foot into the mess on the floor. Half of the poop decided to bypass his diaper and go out the side, and since he wasn't wearing pants it went onto the floor. We don't have any Resolve or carpet cleaner, so I used David's laundry detergent to get it out of the carpet. It worked really well. Oh the joys of motherhood... :) Comments (0) 12/03/2007 David saw Dr. Platt today. Dr. Platt is a member of St. John Lutheran Church here in Chester, IL, so we know him from the congregation. David's on medicaid through the state of Illinois, and Dr. Mathews, his pediatrician in St. Louis doesn't accept that insurance. Dr. Platt is great, and we like him a lot, but hopefully we'll be able to take David to Dr. Mathews for his next appointment in two months. We should be able to get him private insurance by then. We're getting very close to getting coverage for him. Wednesday David gets another set of shots. He's going to be crabby, I'm sure, so handbell practice, the Advent service, etc. are going to be interesting/difficult this week. We're taking him to Chester Health Department to get the shots, they don't do them at the doctors' offices, I guess. The nice thing about having medicaid for him is that we don't have to pay anything for this week's doctor visit or shots. We'll have to pay copays and deductibles when we're all on a private health insurance plan, but that'll make the transition back to St. Louis post-vicarage easier because we'll all have insurance, and we won't qualify for government insurance when I'm working again (hopefully!!). As long as you can have Humana insurance as a Missouri resident, we'll be fine when we move back to St. Louis (provided David's medical record gets straightened out at the insurance office, and they offer him coverage, which they sound like they will). Comments (0) 11/29/2007 As you can see from the new pictures, David has very strong neck muscles, and he's working on his back muscles. He's getting pretty good about sitting fairly straight for a few seconds. He doesn't like being on his tummy for longer than a minute or two, so it's difficult working on his arm muscles and trying to encourage him to roll over. He's enjoying playing in the Rainforest Jumperoo that Uncle Matt, Aunt Maria, and cousin Ayden are letting us borrow. David loves standing, so it's great for him to play in, and he's getting pretty good at grabbing some of the toys that are in front of his face. We started trying to feed him rice cereal last night. We're trying to teach him how to eat off of a spoon, which is going to take a while for him to get the hang of it. He seems to like the rice cereal though, so that's good at least. Comments (0) 11/27/2007 We got our camera back, yay! So we were able to update with new pictures, and some old ones we hadn't been able to upload from a month ago. I've also added some pictures from Grandma & Grandpa Filipek's camera in the Baptism album. David is getting bigger and cuter all the time. Since we've got him Medicaid coverage through the state of Illinois, and still haven't gotten word from the new private insurance company (Humana) on whether they will cover him, he will be seeing Dr. Platt here in Chester until we can cancel his Medicaid. Dr. Platt is a member of St. John Lutheran Church, so we know him from church already, which is nice. David is starting to sleep really well. As of Thursday or Friday night, he doesn't get a night feeding (which was at 5:30-6:30am anyway), and sleeps from about 11pm to 7-8am. And then Monday night, Mommy actually got a full night of sleep, too. She'd been waking up still when he'd make noise in his sleep. David's got a stuffy/runny nose. It's better today, but we've been using the bulb syringe a lot to get all that snot out of there! On Sunday he slept all afternoon, so he probably felt the worst that day. He was crabby anyway, we were happy he took a long nap after all his fussiness! He had been fussy on Thursday, as well, so we thought maybe he's actually teething, but we haven't seen any signs of teething in his gums, so who knows! Comments (0) 11/05/2007 We went to Wal-Mart yesterday and bought David a Halloween costume for next year, they were 50% off, so it was only like $6. He's going to be a dark brown puppy next year. He'll be adorable! We'll have to teach him how to bark, but we've got a whole year to work on that. We're sending out our camera today to get it fixed, and hopefully we'll get it back before Thanksgiving! We've taken some new pictures, but of course we can't post them because we can't hook up to the computer! Maybe, if we don't get our camera back before Thanksgiving we'll post those pictures up using Grandma Wesche's card reader, but we won't be able to take new pictures for the next few weeks, unfortunately. David has been sleeping really well lately. He goes to bed between 9 and 10pm, and then he'll wake up between 4:30 and 5:30am, eat, then sleep some more until about 7:30-8:30am. It's so nice to be able to sleep for longer than a 3 or 4 hour chunk! David sleeps for 7 or 8 hours, so I suppose he's technically "sleeping through the night", but we probably won't count that until he sleeps 9 or 10 hours at a time. He's getting so big! He's outgrown nearly all his 0-3 months clothing, and he's moved up into size 2 diapers. What a big boy! He's got really strong neck and leg muscles, and he puts his hands in his mouth a lot, but we've still gotta work on the arm muscles. He smiles and babbles a lot, and he's starting to become interested in some toys, like the Kick & Drive we're borrowing from cousin Ella. Comments (1) 10/16/2007 Grandma and Grandpa Filipek are visiting us in Chester for a week. David's having lots of fun smiling at them and acting like he can talk. He's been making lots of babbling noise, it's so cute. Comments (0) 10/11/2007 David's been sleeping fine in his bedroom over the past week. He's starting to move up into the next larger clothing size, which is exciting. On Monday, Grandma and Grandpa Filipek are coming to Chester to visit us for a week. Adam is definitely looking forward to taking a week of vacation. He just needs to get through preaching on Sunday, and then we'll head up to St. Louis to stay the night with Becky's parents.
