David is starting to sleep a little better at night. He still likes to be up in the late evening. Usually this means getting to sleep between 11:30pm and 12:30am. Although, a night or two ago he actually went to be at 10:30pm! What he usually does now is sleep for about 4 hours the first time he gets to bed, then he'll sleep about 2 or 3 hours after he wakes up to eat, then for another 2 hours after that feeding... or at least that's what his behavior has been like this week. Some days he sleeps a lot, others he's up all day, like Tuesday! It was crazy. He took two 1 hour naps between 9am and 10:30pm, it was nuts! Point being, even though the days are a little unpredictable still, Becky is getting a little more sleep at one time, now!

Labor Day was a fairly relaxing time up in St. Louis. We got to see how big all David's Wesche side cousins are getting. Becky enjoyed being able to take a break from being the only one taking care of David, and all she really needed to worry about doing for him on Sunday and Monday was feed him and be up with him overnight.

David is still on no sleep schedule whatsoever. He eats pretty much every 2 or 3 hours, unless he doesn't feel like eating much at one time, and then he'll want to eat about every hour. He'll be awake for about 3 hours at a time at two different times throughout the day. They are never at the same time, however, and not even necessarily at the same interval apart! Hence, Saturday night he wanted to be awake until about 1am, and Sunday night he wanted to be awake between 3:45 and 7am! Of course he can't just lay in the crib and entertain himself, he's got to have company, which means no sleep for mom or dad when he wants to be awake. Needless to say, Adam and Becky are very tired this week!

David slept much better last night, not wanting to be awake until 9am, and going to sleep pretty much right away after his every 2 hour feedings. He is fairly consistently up in the late evening, though, so none of us usually get to bed until 11pm or so. And when there's still some work to be done, that couldn't get done when David was awake, it's usually a half hour or more after David gets to bed before Adam or Becky do!

David's umbilical cord stump came off today. The site is a little red, it had a bit of bleeding, and it's still got that nasty yellow discharge, but the pediatricians office said that's all normal (being the good mom I am, I called them because my son was bleeding! haha). In a few days, when it's all dried up we can give him his first real bath! Be looking for pictures of that in a week or so! :)

We're in St. Louis again today! Becky's sister Sarah is having her second baby today, a little girl they are naming Madilynn. Since it is Adam's day off we decided we'd come up and be here for her birth (by scheduled C-section)! David did fairly well last night, he didn't keep his parents up too much. His cheeks are definitely a little chubbier, and he's getting a little meat on his thighs, but he's still got skinny bird legs!

Becky and David took a trip to St. Louis today for his appointment with his pediatrician. They also stopped at Becky's old workplaces, the doctor's office and the Christian bookstore, to let her old coworkers see baby David. Luckily they drove up to St. Louis on Sunday evening, because they did lots of driving by the time they made it home to Chester, but David was a good boy and did lots of sleeping.

The first night out of the hospital was a little rough. Adam was in Chester and Becky and David were staying at Grandma & Grandpa Wesche's house in St. Louis. David didn't really want to go to sleep right away, so he kept his mommy up until about 2am.

David is getting much better with feedings. He wasn't trying too hard the first day, but he'd had a lot go on in the hospital (circumcision, hearing test, Hep. B shot, ultrasound of his kidneys). His left kidney was a little enlarged still, and he's only had maybe 3 wet diapers since he's been born. His ultrasound had shown a full bladder, and now that he's actually getting food, which he hadn't really in the first 24 hours, he should learn to urinate better. Hopefully he won't have a serious problem that requires surgery or anything serious. But right now he's on an antibiotic since he is more susceptible to infection.

Monday he sees his pediatrician. We're hoping that everything goes smoothly. After that we get to bring David home to Chester, IL.

He's finally here!! Everything went very well. The pitocin was started at about 10:30am, Becky received an epidural in the afternoon when the contractions were very close together and very painful. Then they broke Becky's water around 7pm, and then Becky started pushing between 10:00 and 10:15pm. David arrived at 11:00pm!!
