DOSSIER IN SAFE HANDS! posted on 07/24/2007
We received word that our Dossier has been picked up by our agency's in country rep (Girmachew) and is in safe hands. Now it just needs to be translated. Not much will be unfolding from here on out until we receive "THE CALL" telling us WHO our child is, HOW OLD she is and WHEN we can go get her! Then we will start the real challenge of preparing for her. It's been a long time (11 years to be exact) since we had a little one in our home so we will be starting from scratch. If anyone has nice hand-me-downs....we'll take them!
More waiting! More praying!

NEW MILLENIUM I have been asked a couple of times about my post dated 5-08-07 when I mentioned that the courts close for the rainy season and that this year, Ethiopia will celebrate the new millenium. YES, it is true! It is already 2007 here but in Ethiopia, it's still 1999! Ethiopia does not observe the Gregorian Calendar as we do. So, the new millenium starts this September 11th, there will be a huge celebration "Enkutatash". The Ethiopian calendar works like this..... The People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is on the east coast of Africa. The Ethiopian Calendar consists of 12 months with 30 days each, plus a 13th month called "Pagume" of 5 days to bring the calendar up to 365 days. When the following Gregorian year is a leap year, then a 6th day is added to Pagume. The New Year (Meskerem 1) falls on September 11 (or September 12 following Ethiopian Leap Years). Since the Ethiopian Leap Day preceeds the Gregorian Leap Day by half a year, the holidays may occur one day later than given. | Ethiopian Month | Begins in... |
|---|
| Meskerem | September | | Tikimit | October | | Hidar | November | | Tahesas | December | | Tir | January | | Yekatit | February | | Megabit | March | | Miyazia | April | | Ginbot | May | | Sene | June | | Hamle | July | | Nehase | August | | Pagume | September |

IT LOOKS GREAT! Laurel (our Ethiopia Rep from AWAA) called at 2:26pm today to say that she had received our dossier and it looked great! Everything was in order and it will be taken to the US Dept and Ethiopian Embassy next week and should be on a plane to ET shortly thereafter! Another step closer!!! We are celebrating!

IT'S OFFICIAL! WE ARE DONE WITH THE PAPERCHASE!!
213 Pages Total 29 Documents 5 States for certifications 2 Copies of everything 1 Check (mid-payment, translation/authentication fees, postplacement deposit and courier fees) 1 Trip to "Packages Plus" - Thanks Stacey!!! (Employee of the day!) 1 Prayer to keep our package safe! and there you have it! A completed dossier and one happy lady! Although it was hard to let go of all the paperwork I had been working on for months now, (especially after seeing on the news about a DHL truck full of packages catching on fire!!) I know that we will soon meet our baby girl that God has created just for our family! We are very excited!

CHECK...CHECK...AND RE-CHECK!
These have been my best friends since we started the "Paperchase"! I have practically put holes in them from recording dates documents were received, what needed to be signed, notarized, certified, faxed, e-mailed, etc. Our agency, AWAA, America World has been fantastic and have provided a step by step guide to our process. Much different from our last experience!
So, I will pick up a check from the church tomorrow (we have an adoption account that our friends and family can give to through the church) for our dossier fees and then it will be off to AWAA. From there, our paperwork will be sent to the US State Department and the Ethiopian Embassy and then after receiving all of it's approval and certifications, it will be off to Ethiopia. This is when we begin the "official wait" for our child. Not sure how long this next step will take but I will keep you informed! P.S. - Thank you to those who have been asking questions about our process and praying for our family. It is wonderful to be sharing this journey with you all and share what God is doing in our lives! We are blessed!
