The bestest part of the ice cream cone
posted on 08/07/2009

This morning, we all went to my OB appointment.  Afterwards, we went to Gymboree to use a gift card given to us by a family friend....we got Lana & Tucker their first coordinating outfits - so fun!  After shopping, we had lunch at the food court, and Lana (of course!) chose Chick-Fil-A.  When she finished her meal, she traded her toy in for an ice cream cone.  (My personal favorite part about CFA.)

Let me tell you, that girl can EAT an ice cream cone!  It's so funny....she doesn't spill a drop, and eats it in record time.

As she got down to the last third or so of her cone, we started walking toward the restrooms in preparation to head back to Wake Forest.

Lana was almost finished, Dan and I were talking as we were all walking, and all of a sudden, she held up the very last bite or two....you know, that bottom part of the sugar cone...she held it up high in the air to me and said, "Here, Mommy!  You can have this!  I saved the bestest part for you!!"

You must know, that bottom part of a sugar cone is my VERY. FAVORITE.  I don't even care about the rest of the cone....I just want that last few inches where the ice cream has soaked down into the cone.  Mmmm.....love it.

I don't know how or when she picked up on it being my favorite part....she must have just been listening the last time we had ice cream cones together.  But that was ages ago!

The fact that she remembered how much I loved it, and chose to give it to me spontaneously, without any prompting at all, turned me into a puddle of tears.  It was just pure selflessness on her part...pure love for her Mommy.

Now, she's not always like this.  Don't let me paint a rosier picture for you than it actually is.  But this was one of my favorite moments of all times with her....we could totally see the gifts of generosity and love that the Lord has planted in her.
