Baby Evan Is Growing By Leaps and Bounds

Lots of news!

Hello all you Evan-lovers,

Sorry it has been so long since we have written!  We have been busy, busy.  Hasn't everyone?  This has been a very big month for Evan.  On Oct. 7, he slept through the night...8hours...YIPPEE!  It is amazing to get that much sleep in one night!  After going from waking up every two to three hours, eight hours was unbelievable!  Our bodies got a taste of want we had been missing during the past four months..SLEEP.

Unfortunately, on Oct. 8, Evan did not do the same.  In fact, he went back to the old habits of every two hours!  We had to deal with the facts, which were that he went to the doctor on Oct. 7 and had his shots which caused him to miraculously sleep through the night. However, things are looking up again.  He has had three nights in a row this week where he slept for seven hours straight!  That's right, three days in a row of SLEEP!  I think, although I don't want to jinx us, I think we have a PATTERN here!  If so, Wed., Oct. 22 will go down in the record books as Evan sleeps through the night.  (You can tell how excited we are, huh, about sleep.  Although when you have gone so long without it, you can't really remember what it was like to sleep.)

Okay, enough about that.  Other big news, Evan began rolling over last week!  I noticed it several times in the middle of the night when I would go into his room to feed him.  He had turned over in the crib.  However, we never actually saw him do it, until this week.  We were playing on the floor and watching Baby Einstein (his MOST FAVORITE thing) and he just rolled right over and laughed!

He also has been sitting up.  He doesn't like to recline in his little chair anymore, instead he just props his little self up.  He has really enjoyed the Bumbo chair.  He likes sitting in it while we make dinner or clean his bottles.

Other fascinations are bubbles, Archie, the puppets on Baby Einstein, his mobile, a red birdie toy, the bath (HE LOVES THE BATH), the Soulard Market, bubbles, other babies, his cousin Annalise's Exersaucer-LOVES IT, the Jolly Jumper, the swing, his neighbors-Erica and Sov, and being OUTSIDE!  We take him on walks a lot.  In fact we got a really good deal at a Baby Sale on a Jeep brand baby jogger.

Evan has also been getting a chance to spend time with his grandparents.  A few weekends ago, his Grandma and Grandpa Weaver came up and spent a couple of days with him.  They went out and about and took him to a pumpkin farm where he got his first little pumpkin.  This weekend we are back in Collierville visiting both sets of grandparents.  Right now he is outside with grandma and grandpa Masserano strolling through the yard.

He hasn't decided on what to be for Halloween yet.  The monk idea was cute, but he is starting to grow some hair in that big bald spot, and the other hair is getting really long.  (Everyone wants to cut-but I like his curls...isn't he too young for that still?)  So anyways, he almost has a baby mullet. But a cute baby mullet.  His hair is long enough on the sides for a Jewish rabbi look.  We could go with the crazy scientist or Donald Trump idea still, but Evan is way, too cute for that.  After seeing Robert and Milly's baby Britton in a tiger costume, I am kinda thinking he should be a Memphis tiger for Halloween.  We shall see.

Well, as you can see, Evan has been up to a lot lately.  He is just smiling, laughing, and cooing away!  It has been lots of fun!  I will try to write more often!

Lots of love...Julie, David, Evan......and Archie....poor Archie.

September Days

It has been a busy month, and it is flying by quickly.  Grandma and Grandpa Masserano came to visit for Labor Day weekend.  Evan has been going to Mrs. Lucy's during the day while we've been at work.  He's gone out to dinner with us twice.  We have been taking him to the market, craft fairs, and parks.  He LOVES being outside.  Archie and him get walked at Forest Park.  His sleeping pattern is a little crazy still, but how many more days will we get to rock him like this? right?  Last night we went to Forest Park to see the Hot Air Balloon Glow....it was fun.

Oh, and two girlfriends were born last week!  Milly had baby Britton and Rachel had baby Natalie last Monday!  Oh, baby, this is exciting!

I'm Asleep!
posted on 08/17/2008

Evan is asleep for the evening...or so we hope.  He has been doing a lot better sleeping more at night.  He had about 4 good nights last week.  One night he went for a seven hour stretch!  It was unbelievable!  His reflux seems to be getting better as well.  Maybe that's why he is sleeping a little better.

This weekend we just chilled out and relaxed.  He got to where two dressy outfits this weekend.  One to church and the other to the ice cream social at my school.  Doesn't he look handsome?

Evan seems to like several things now: his fingers, the TV (we watched his first baby einstein), the Olympics, his Bumbo chair, stroller rides, and being outside.  He also likes to stare at us and just smile or coo.  It is really getting to be a lot of fun.

He has been going to Mrs. Lucy for two weeks now.  The first week he just went for a few half days.  He seems to really enjoy her, and she really likes him, too.  The kids at school start back on Wednesday, so he is set with her for the school year.  We'll have to take a picture with Mrs. Lucy this week.

Goodnight.

2 Months old!
posted on 08/07/2008

Well,  Evan is doing great and both David and I are surviving!  Yesterday, Evan went for his two month check-up where he endured the many shots!  At first it seemed that he was going to take it very well, and perhaps sleep the day away; however, this was not the case.  Poor little guy fussed about it the rest of the day.  :(  However.....da da da da..... he slept for 5 1/2 hours straight last night, then got up for ten minutes...slept another 2 1/2 hours which by then it was 6 o'clock!  I only had to get up once.  Get this...he even then went back to sleep so that I could sleep in to 7:30.  He's the perfect baby!  Today he has even taken two naps!  Other than that he is just cooing, smiling, and kicking away!  I think we might go to the park tonight.  He has been teaching Archie how to walk on a leash.  We'll see how it goes.  (BY the way..evan is not on a leash.)

Back Home in St. Louis
posted on 08/01/2008

After a two week vacation at his grandparents' homes, Evan returns home.  The car rides were a little stressful and tiresome on little Evan, but he is now at home relaxing.  In fact the first night home he slept for 2 1/2, 4, and 3 hours with eating in between.  And then..... last night he went 6, then 2 1/2 and then 1 hour in between waking up to eat!  WOW...what a wonderful thing for mama... because back in Memphis he woke up about every two hours to eat, which means she was getting up 4 to 5 times a night with him!  Now it has been only twice the past two nights.  You can tell I am much relieved.

Evan has been making many advances within the past week.  He has discovered his hands!  He has been putting his right hand in his mouth quite a bit lately and sucking on his pointer finger.  He does not seem to take the pacifier as much anymore...which means we might have a thumb sucker on our hands!  Evan is also very interested in the mobile and different lights and sounds.  He also likes to stare in your eyes and giggle or give a bright smile!

He is just so cute that both mama and daddy are going to quit their jobs so we can stay home with him.  WE WISH!

Well, he is waking up from a nap...will write later.

Today Evan is heading back to St. Louis.  He has had lots of fun with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  He has been well fed, we have the puppy in tow, and we'll let you know how it goes.

Oh...fun fact...he has still not peed on anybody yet!  However, he did projectile poop on me at 5:30 this morning!!

Summer Days
posted on 07/24/2008

Well, it has been a little while since our last update.  Evan has been extremely busy in the past few weeks.

On the 4th of July we kept things mellow and just hung around the house for the weekend.  We got together with our neighbors Erika and Sov and barbequed.  Evan likes hanging out with them, and he makes sure to leave his spit up mark on Erika most days.

The next weekend was very exciting for Evan.  He made his Baptism at our church, Little Flower.  Both sets of grandparents, Great Grandma Bertasi, Great Uncle Raymond and Leslie, Aunt Jennifer and Uncle Tony, and Aunt Susan, Uncle Brian, and Cooper all came up from out of town to join in with the festivities.  We should have posted a survey question on whether or not Baby Evan would cry....the answer NO!  He was a little upset before church, and kinda cranky after taking pictures after mass....but during mass and the pouring of the water he was a perfect ANGEL!!  Of course.  We had a party back at the house with lots of food...and Evan decided to sleep the whole way through.

The next week Grandma Masserano and Mommy drove Evan down to Collierville to spend some summer vacation time.  Evan, Mommy, and Daddy have been floating around between the grandparents' houses to visit everyone.

Evan's favorite hobbies at the moment are eating, sleeping (sometimes), burping, sitting on the vibrating chair, swinging on the porch or in the hammock, rocking, smiling, and cooing.  We have had a few rough days with crying; however, within the past week he is starting to settle in and get use to more things.  Let's hope it continues.  Two problems we have to solve are getting rid of the Gas Reflux and trying to sleep for more than 2 hours without waking up at night!

Well...we will be in Memphis for a few more days before heading back to St. Louis...keep you updated.

Evan is one month old today!
posted on 07/02/2008

It's hard to believe, but the little guy is one month old today.  I took him in this morning to see the peditrician for his check-up.  He did great all morning until he arrivd there...bum bum bum bum... he made sure to cry almost the entire visit, and the poor little guy got a shot at the end, too.  However, he managed to quiet down right as I walked out of the office.  In fact, he is still quiet almost three hours later.  Which means I'm a happy mama at the moment.  He is taking a nap.  Unfortunately, the next time he goes to see the doctor he will have 4 shots!   Yuck!  He did receive a Tazmania Devil Band-aid.

Well.. the doc said that he is now 10 pounds and 12 ounces... and he is 22 1/2 inches long.  So he has grown 3 pounds and 1 inch since he was born!

Not too much else going on other than crying, eating, pooping, rocking, and occasional napping.  Keep you updated.

Oh...he loves taking a bath!  We have been practicing the baptism...and he has it down!
