Lunch at Beach Cafe

Sunday 25th October

Mum and Dad took boys and i out for lunch to the Beach Cafe today.

It opened in the summer and it's the first time i've been. Mum and Dad have been once before with Joanne, Chris and Cameron.

It was lovely, lots of room and they even have a fish tank which entertained Ross and Owen.

Dad and i had a breakfast which had 2 fried eggs, bacon, sausages, 2 black pudding, tea and toast. It was lovely. Mum had a chicken sandwich with salad and the boys had sausages, peas and chips which they enjoyed.  Owen also enjoyed eating bell pepper which was in mum's salad.  You wouldn't think a baby would like that but he munched through several pieces!

In the afternoon, mum and dad came back to mine for a coffee then they went to do some shopping at the supermarket. I watched TV whilst the boys were having their afternoon 2 hour sleep.....lovely, peaceful time for me!smileys

They got up at 16.50 and i made them scrambed eggs and toast for tea, followed by strawberries.

I'm having some computer time just now (18.40) and John is playing with the boys before bed.

Bye for now

Tuesday 27th October

Went to Dr today.  Bloods were ok except for raised white cells.  Have bit of inflammation/infection.  To have another abdominal ultrasound scan performed to see if anything is wrong following my operation.

Went down to mum's for lunch.  Boys were good.  Now back on laptop and off to watch TV whilst Ross & Owen are still in bed. Had bloods taken by GP on Monday and i'm going back to see him again on Tues.  Still not feeling great.  He may refer me back to hospital for a scan to see what's going on.  It's really annoying as i should be fine now but i'm still quite sore at times and have very little energy.

John's weekend off

Saturday 17th October

On sick leave from work and it'll be 3 weeks on Tuesday since my operation.  Unfortunately still not feeling very well.  I thought it was just to be expected with my recovery but i actually feel worse this time than after my laparotomy in 2005.  I'm very weak and getting alot of pain still.  Sometimes in my "gallbladder" area ( where it used to be!) but last couple of days, i've been getting sharp pains in my stomach area and sometimes in my back.

I think i'll see a doctor on Monday as i shouldn't still be feeling like this....my consultant did say that some people develop complications after the surgery but hopefully it'll soon settle down.

John is off this weekend and has just gone down to see his mum with Ross.  I'm at home with Owen.  I've just read him a few books and he's now gone for his afternoon nap.

Bye for nowSmile

Wednesday 30th September

Saw my consultant this morning and he was happy with me.  I'm still very sore but that is to be expected but getting good relief from tramadol, paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Swollen today and getting pains in my shoulder....this is due to the gas they pump into the abdomen to see liver and gallbladder during operation.

All 4 wounds redressed and looking fine.

Saw pain team...i know the nurse in charge of it, he is very nice and i chatted to him for a while, he used to work in the ward above my ward for years and he really enjoys this new job.

Dr wants me to stay in until the evening to make sure i'm able to eat and drink before discharge.

Had a nice, restfull day.  Exchanged phone numbers with Betty, it'll be nice to keep in touch.

Our 8th Wedding Anniversary

Tuesday 29th September 2009

Its our 8th Wedding Anniversary today!

8 year anniversary is Bronze so John gave me a lovely pair bronze heart shaped earrings and i gave him a bronze duckling watering can!

He gave me a lovely card also and we got some lovely cards from our family too.

I saw my consultant before my op.  I then had a shower and put on the glamourous TED stockings ( to help prevent blood clots).

I became quite nervous at about 9am, i've had a tonsilectomy in the past and also a major operation called a laparotomy to remove my right ovary and tube so i knew what to expect but you still get nervous of operations no matter how many you've had the the past.

John rang my mobile at 9.30 and it was lovely speaking to him and the boys.  I could hear Owen chattering in his play pen.  Ross then spoke to me and said "i love you Mummy, come home soon!!"  This of course set me off and i started to cry after the phone call but it was hard being away from everyone at home.  I was ok after that and spoke to Betty for a while, she in fact was going for a laparatomy as she had a bowel obstruction ( due to adhesions).

At just after 10.35am the theatre porter (a lady) came up to collect me.  A nurse came down with me and i got checked into the theatre.

I was soon in the anaesthetic room with the anaesthetist and nurse.

I was put on the cardiac monitor and had my venlflon put in.  My pulse was racing over 90 bpm (nerves!)

They were very nice though and before i knew it i was out for the count!!

He gave my some IV Morphine first and then started to put in the general anaesthetic, its amazing you don't even feel yourself getting sleepy it's that quick, before you know it the operation is all over and the next thing you know is that a nurse in the recovery room is looking after you!

I had a laproscopic cholecystectomy ( keyhole gallbladder removal).

As my gallbladder was so inflammed took alot longer than normal to remove but at least they didn't have to perform another laparotomy.

Before i knew it, i was back on the ward.  John was already there and it was after 2pm.

I was quite drowsy for a while and had IV fluids and oxygen.

It was lovely seeing him.

Mum, Dad and Joanne all came to visit in the evening which was lovely.

Monday 27th September

Slept quite well overnight and was given early tea and toast in preparation for my operation but i was seen by my consultant and the operation was postponed until Tues 29th.

I was then allowed to have some breakfast and had a shower. I had my tablets which helped with the pain and had a nice rest in the morning. I spoke to Betty alot which was nice and the other patients.

I had a lovely surprise in the afternoon.....John took Ross and Owen in to see me which was great as i'd missed them so much!

We went through to the dayroom and played for a while.  There was a box full of toys and books to keep them occupied.  Ross said he missed me and that he wanted me to come home.

I went outside to carpark with John and boys when they left and it was really strange seeing John put the boys in their car seats and me not going with them.  I had a few tears in my eyes at that point!

I had my tea and then Mum and Dad came to visit in the evening which was lovely.

I saw the anaesthetist whilst Mum and Dad were there and he was very nice.  I've had operations in the past and i've suffered from sickness so he prescribed a "cocktail"! to prevent it happening again!

Went to sleep at about 22.30 and was then fasting in prepartion for my operation.
