I had my darling baby boy, Owen Robert on Tuesday 6th May at 10.46am weighing 8lb 3oz. Here is my birthstory I went into labour at 9.15pm on Monday 5th May (my due date!). It started with period type pains for about 30mins then at 9.45 i started to have back ache every 4-5mins. I had a bath at 11pm and had a few back twinges during the next 30 mins. I phoned the maternity ward and explained that this was my second baby but as i have group b strep, i was concerned when to go to the ward. I also have an 18 month old son and my mum and dad were to look after him during my labour. They advised me to go to bed and relax but i couldn`t sleep as the pains in my back and now stomach were coming every 3 mins! At 2am my mum and dad arrived to look after Ross and we went to the hospital. Once there my contractions were monitored for 1 1/2 hours but i was only 2-3 cm dilated so i wanted to go home. I went back to bed at 4.30 but couldn`t sleep as the pains got much worse very quickly. They were much more intense than in my first labour. At 7am i got up and went to the toilet where a large mucus plug came out! My hind waters had gone also. I went to the hospital with my husband, John and was in agony in the car! Once there i was given IV Clindomycin and admitted. I was found to be 8cm dilated and rushed to the delivery suite! Like my first birth i had gas and air which really helped. The contractions were much more painful with this birth but the labour was much quicker. I had made up some `labour` CDs of my favourite music which helped me relax also. I was soon 10cm dilated but my front waters were still intact. The midwife who was called Linda broke my waters and my darling baby boy Owen Robert was born after just 2 pushes at 10.46 am! The pushing was painful but better than with my first birth and much quicker. Owen had some oxygen and suction but was soon nice and pink and crying loudly! He's a beautiful baby and we're so proud of him!

Hello everyone and welcome to my journal. My husband and i were married in 2001 and have 2 lovely sons.
We took 4 1/2 years to conceive our first son, Ross, and it was heartbreaking TTC over that long time. I had various tests done and they were normal. In 2005 i was put on Clomid and unknown to us i had undiagnosed endometriosis. I had an ovarian cyst on my right ovary which had grown to 15cm in length! I had an emergency laparaotomy and the cyst was removed alongwith my right ovary and tube. I was found to have stage 4 endometriosis was lots of deposits all over my abdomen including my bladder and bowel.
We were given a less than 1% chance of conceiving naturally!
I was given 6 months of Zoladex injections after the op to put my body into a temporary menopause! This was to help remove some of the deposits and reduce a cyst i had on my remaining ovary. 3 months after i finished the treatment my periods returned and 3 months after that i discovered i was pregnant! John & I were delighted and after a healthy pregnancy Ross was born.
I went into labour 4 days early on my sister's wedding day! I still managed to be her chief bridesmaid though and Ross was born in the early hours of the next day.
Ross's birth story to follow.

Another baby
Well just found out yesterday that my husband and i are going to have another baby. I was a week late and then did 3 pregnancy tests which immediately showed BFPs!
I'm feeling ok except for extreme tiredness and some nausea. I'm 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Saw a doctor yesterday and my bloods were taken. Don't have date for scan yet but it shouldn't be long.
Baby due on the 5th May 2008!

Got scan date
Hi, got a phone call yesterday from the midwife who runs the ultrasound clinic at the hospital. I have my first scan on Thursday 27th September. Still feeling tired but not so bad today as i had a nice long sleep. Our son is a good sleeper and slept for 12 hours last night which was great. Hopefully the new baby will be the same!

Goodbye tiredness, hello sickness!
Hello again,
I'm now 7 weeks and 3 days pregnant. The all day tiredness is gone now, thank goodness! I'm just tired at night only now. The morning sickness seems to be picking up, i had it a bit in weeks 5 & 6 but it's every morning now but it does settle later in the day. I have my first scan next Thursday 9/27 which i'm looking forward to, then i'll have one at 12 weeks also.

I've had my first scan
Hello there,
Well i'll be 9 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I have sickness most mornings now but apart from that i'm feeling ok. I've lost 4 pounds already! I did that with my first pregnancy and didn't gain any weight till the second trimester. I have been eating properly but due to the sickness i tend to lose a bit of weight. I had my first scan last thursday when i was 8 weeks and 3 days. It was great to see the little heart beating and see the baby moving around. I've posted a couple of the scan pictures. You can see the little face, arms and legs.

Seen our our new baby for the 2nd time!
Hello again
Its now Thursday 18th October and i'm now 11 weeks and 3 days pregnant! The sickness has more or less gone now, it comes back every few days but it's not nearly as bad as the sickness i got with my first pregnancy last year.
I had my second scan on Tuesday and it was lovely to see the baby moving around, he/she has grown so much in just 3 weeks! The baby's growth shows the 4th of May as the due date but the doctor says we'll keep the 5th May as the date....but our first baby started off 4 days early so we'll see. I'll post the new scan picture soon.
Speak to you soon xxx

2nd Trimester here i come!
Sunday 28th October - 13 weeks tomorrow!
Well, thats the first trimester over already! My sickness has more or less gone now which is great as i had it up to 16 weeks with my son. I can also drink milk again as i went off it when i was newly pregnant. I've lost 1/2 stone, so the baby must be taking all of my food! I was the same the last time but i'll put on weight later. My bump is showing already, quite a few people have noticed it. I wasn't showing this early the last time but you do show quicker when it's not your first baby.
I've posted 3 pictures of our baby's 2nd scan, in the first one you can see the little fingers!

Bump much bigger this time around
Hi all
I'm now 14 weeks 4 days pregnant and my bump is growing fast! I wasn't this big with my son until i was about 20 weeks. My weight is still down, i've lost about 9 pounds since becoming pregnant. The sickness stopped a few weeks ago now but the baby must be getting all my calories! I think i'm having a girl this time as i feel so different and i just have a feeling. I'm getting some spots also which i didn't get when i was last pregnant and my friends with girls all had spots when carrying their daughters. I have sciatica also which is quite painful at times but otherwise this pregnancy is going well. Off to bed shortly, night night

Saturday 10th November
Having nice weekend. DH is off as well and we're going out with some friends tonight for a meal. My Mum and Dad will be looking after our son. Bought some more maternity clothes last week as i need them now as my bump as grown so much. I've still not put on any weight, lost if in fact. Will be going away for 3 nights at the end of November to do some Christmas shopping. My parents will be looking after our son and 2 cats. I've still to book somewhere but i've seen a lovely 4 star hotel in the countryside outside Newcastle. I can't wait for Christmas as it's my favourite time of the year!

18 weeks bump pic and info
Hi,
!8 weeks pregnant today! DH and i went away for a little holiday on Friday and stayed for 2 nights at a beautiful 4 star hotel just outside Edinburgh - The Marriot Dalmahoy. We had lovely meals there and enjoyed the leisure facilities. The swimming pool and spa were lovely but with being pregnant i couldn't go into the sauna or steam room. We finished our Christmas shopping on Saturday in Glasgow. It's a great city with lots of malls. My mum and dad looked after our son whilst we were away and they all had a great time together. Here is an 18 week old baby and some pregnancy facts
By week 18 of your pregnancy, your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5 to 5.5 inches long. Your baby continues to develop fat layers and weighs about 5.25 ounces. Your baby will continue to grow and develop, but the rapid growth will slow down for a little while. You will be able to feel your uterus just below your bellybutton. If you put your fingers sideways to measure, you can feel your uterus about two finger-widths below your bellybutton. At this point of your pregnancy, your uterus is approximately the size of a cantaloupe. Although weight gain varies from woman to woman, your total weight gain at this point should be 10 to 13 pounds.
At this time if you had an ultrasound, heart abnormalities can be detected. If the ultrasound technician detects abnormalties, further ultrasound exams may be ordered to follow the baby's development. There is still space available in your uterus and your baby will be active for periods at a time. Your baby may sit cross legged or turn somersaults.
Around this time, your baby becomes more sensitive to the outside world and shows her presence through powerful kicks and prods. The bones through which sound is passed to the inner ear have hardened and the part of the brain that receives and processes nerve signals from the ears are developing. This means that your baby can hear now. Your baby will get used to familiar sounds, such as your heart beating, familiar voices, blood rushing through the umbilical cord and other daily routine sounds. Your baby will become startled if he hears a loud sound.
If you have a stethoscope at home, you can now hear the baby's heartbeat yourself.

Baby beginning to move around move, i love feeling the little movements, won't be long before the kicks start! I'm now on holiday till the 21st December. Must start wrapping my christmas presents.
We'll be putting up the decorations soon, but not our big tree this year as ds is too young, he'll probably pull it down! We'll buy a small tree to put up on the dining table instead.Bye for now everyone xxx

Tuesday 11th Dec 19 weeks 1 day
WEEK 19 PREGNANCY FACTS
Your baby's crown-to-rump length is 5.2 to 6 inches this week. Your baby weighs approximately 7 ounces and will increase its weight more than 15 times between now and birth!
Most women can feel their uterus about a half of an inch below their bellybutton at this point of pregnancy. If you turn to the side, you can really tell that your body is changing! Most women have gained up to 14 pounds now and only 7 ounces of that is your baby! The placenta weighs about 6 ounces and the amniotic fluid that surrounds your baby weighs 11 ounces. Your breasts have increased in weight by 6 ounces each and the uterus has grown to 11 ounces! You may be gaining weight in places other than your abdomen and this may be affecting your posture and sleeping habits.
One of the most amazing aspects of your baby's growth and development is that of the fetal brain. Your baby's brain is one of the first organs to appear. Your baby's oversized head shows the brain's importance in his development. Because the nerves that connect the muscles to the brain have grown into place, your baby's movements are consciously directed. Your baby's ears stand out from the sides of the head and the buds for your baby's permanent teeth appear. Your baby's arms and legs have reached their relative proportions and his feet are approximately one inch long.
On holiday this week and have now put up our christmas decorations at last. We didn't put up our big tree as our son will pull it down as he's 13 months and into everything! We bought a small tree that sits on top of our dining table and it looks lovely with our decorations. He enjoyed seeing all the decorations this morning when he got up. New baby is doing well, moving more often but still gentle movements. Bump much the same, still big but have hardly gained any weight so for, i was the same with my son and got back my figure really quickly the first time so this time should be the same.

New bump pic
Hello again
Friday 4th January
Have had some hip pains for the past couple of months but since last Friday i have developed sciatica. It started after driving the car and i was in agony when i arrived at my mum's after a 10 minute journey. My back and right leg down to my knee was very painful. The pain and nausea with it actually reminded me of labour!! I had to lie down in bed it was so bad. I said to my mum i could have done with some gas & air!
I saw a doctor last monday and was signed of work. I'm registered nurse and i have difficulty bending to change my son's nappy never mind nursing. I was supposed to be on night shift tonight and tomorrow and then days next week but i think i'll still be off then also. I saw a midwife yesterday and she gave me a double tubigrip support to wear from the top of my hips to the top of my bump....extremely sexy !!!! not.... but it has helped with the pain in my leg.
Baby is moving around alot now, i love the feeling the movements. I've only gained 5 pounds so far, so it shouldn't be too hard to get my figure back later.
Your baby now looks like a miniature newborn, checking in at 10.9 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound. Her skin will continue to appear wrinkled until she gains enough weight to fill it out, and the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her head and body is now visible. Her lips are becoming more distinct, and the first signs of teeth are appearing as buds beneath her gum line. Her eyes are developed, though the iris (the colored part of the eye) still lacks pigment. Eyelids and eyebrows are in place, and her pancreas, essential for hormone production, is developing steadily.
Your baby now weighs a little over one pound/ 500 grams and measures about 11.4 inches/ 29 centimetres from crown to heel. Her hearing is well established and she can make out a distorted version of your voice, the beating of your heart and your stomach rumblings. Loud noises often heard in utero, such as the barking of a dog next door or the roar of a vacuum cleaner, probably won't bother your child when she hears them outside the womb.
Numerous studies seem to indicate that the unborn prefer classical music, especially Vivaldi. Play The Four Seasons for your child and pay attention to her movements. Does she quieten down during adagio sections and speed up for the allegro portions? You may have a budding conductor in your womb.
In addition to advances in your baby's hearing, her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing. She's swallowing but she normally won't pass her first stool (called meconium) until after birth.
If your baby were to be born now, she would have a small chance of survival (about 16 per cent) with the right care. Every day in the womb makes a difference at this stage. If she was born at 24 weeks her chance of survival would rise to 44 per cent.
As for you, you may feel clumsy now that your centre of gravity has shifted. Your gums may bleed when you brush your teeth and your belly button, once an 'innie', may now stick out. Don't worry. It'll revert to its pre-baby state soon after you give birth.

Hello
Still off sick from work with sciatica. Leg still sore but tubigrip is relieving the pressure a bit. Baby moving more and more now, john felt the kicks yesterday!
Our son is now 14 months old and doing so well! He is now walking by himself which he really enjoys. His speech is improving and able to say yes and no and shake or nod his head also. He also fetches toys you ask him to get for you now which is great.

baby kicking alot now
Hello again
Having a nice day with my son. He is 14 months old tomorrow. I'm still off work with my sciatica but it is improving. I'll go back next wednesday for one day to ease myself in.
Baby no 2 kicking alot especially from 10pm, definately a night owl like me!
Have only gained 7 pounds so far but did lose 10 pounds in early pregnancy. Should be a fairly small baby like my son who was only 7 pounds 3 oz when he was born.
My husband is off the weekend which will be nice. My sister is coming round to visit this afternoon which will be lovely. Bye for now.

bump at 25 weeks
Monday 21st January
25 weeks already! I went back to work for a day last week and my sciatica seems to be getting better. Not too long until i leave work. I have holidays in February and then work until about the 27th March. I'll then have 8 weeks of holidays before my maternity leave starts on the 25th May for a year! Baby moving well and kicking alot at times. Tired now especially after housework etc and looking after our lovely 14 month old son.
The baby now weighs nearly 1.5 pounds / 660 grams and is approximately 13.5 inches/ 35 centimetres long from crown to heel. He makes breathing movements but has no air in his lungs yet. At 26 weeks, fetal brain scans show response to touch. If you shine a light on your abdomen, your baby will turn his head, which according to researchers, means his optic nerve is working.
At every antenatal visit, your midwife or doctor will take your blood pressure and do tests on a sample of your urine. In this way, pregnancy-related conditions such as pre-eclampsia and diabetes can be detected and treated.
Your fingers, wrists and hands may be feeling achy and numb. The carpal tunnel in the wrist is swollen, as are many other tissues in your body. Nerves that run through the tunnel end up pinched, creating pressure that manifests itself as shooting or burning pain. Wearing a brace may help; so will taking vitamin B6. Talk to your midwife or doctor about other ways

Almost 30 weeks!
Hello again
I have been on holiday for the last couple of weeks which has been nice. We went to Inverness shopping on Monday which was good, i bought i lovely turquoise top which i'll wear once the baby is born. Went to the baby gym yesterday with my son and mum. It was good fun. He really enjoys it there. There is singing games to begin with then playtime with shoots, see-saws, ball pool etc.
Baby moving around well, especially at night. Bump very large now but i've just put on 13 pounds and the weight is only on my bump, nowhere else!
My mum and dad are looking after my son overnight so my husband and i can have a meal out together tonight. He loves spending the night with is nana and grandad.
My husband is off this weekend, we're going to buy a moses basket and a new change mat.
Bye for now
2008-02-25 (30 weeks)
30 weeks! You may feel as if you have been pregnant forever at this point. It might be hard to imagine being pregnant for another ten weeks, but your baby still has alot of growing and developing to do! By this time, your baby's crown-to-rump length is a little over 10.8 inches and the total length of your baby is about 17 inches! Your baby weighs about 3 pounds now. Your uterus can be felt about 4 inches above your bellybutton. Your uterus, baby, placenta and the amount of fluid will get larger over the next ten weeks. You should be gaining about a pound a week at this time.
Because you are getting larger, you are probably becoming slower and clumsier. You should try to be careful to avoid dangerous falls. Good posture when sitting and standing can help you feel better during your pregnancy. You also should be rolling over on your side to get up after lying down because your muscles have stretched to accomodate your growing uterus.
Even though your baby is cushioned by the amniotic fluid, she can feel and respond to pain. Your baby now does `practice breathing` to get ready for life outside of your womb. If you have an ultrasound at this time, you will be able to see this. If your baby swallows amniotic fluid down the wrong passage, she will still get hiccups that are noticeable by you. If your baby were born at this time, she would be able to keep herself warm.
The skin begins to smoothen as fat deposits accumulate underneath. The fat insulates and is an energy source.
Your baby develops reflexes and the skin is very sensitive.
The brain is fully formed, and the child can feel pain. the baby may even suck his thumb.

32 weeks and 3 days pregnant!
Hello
Thurday 13th March
Well, i'm on my 10 days off from work with only 2 more night shifts to go until i finish! I was ill last week with a sickness bug. It started on Mother's Day! I had a lovely day and got a lovely card and teddy but at night after our meal out i was very sick and then was ill for the rest of the week! I was supposed to work last Saturday but didn't go in so only had to work on the Sunday and Monday night. Baby is doing well, i can feel alot of movements and you can see the baby moving clearly under my skin. It spends alot of the time up against my ribcage! Only 7 1/2 weeks until we meet our new baby!
Your baby now weighs about 4.2 pounds / 2 kilograms and measures approximately 17 inches/ 44 centimetres from head to toe. Your baby should already be getting ready for delivery by turning upside-down -- his head should be pointing down.
Your doctor or midwife will be paying careful attention to your baby's position in the coming weeks -- some babies do decide to turn back round again.
Your baby's skull is still quite pliable and not completely joined, in part so he can ease out of the relatively narrow birth canal. But the bones in the rest of his body are hardening. Your baby's skin is also gradually becoming less red and wrinkled.
If you're a first-time mother, your child's head may move into the pelvis this week and press firmly against your cervix. (This happens for about half of all first-time mothers.) If you're a second-time mum, you can expect this to happen a week before labour -- and for some this won't happen until the start of labour. Hoping to manage your labour naturally? Here's all you need to know about natural pain relief
Our lovely son at 16 months with his favourite toy ducks!
2008-03-25 (34 weeks)
34 wks 1 day Your baby's crown-to-rump length this week is approximately 12.8 inches and the total length is around 19.8 inches at this time. Your baby now weighs almost 5 pounds. From your bellybutton, it is about 5.6 inches to the top of your uterus. Measurements of your uterus vary from woman to woman. You should not worry if you do not measure the exact same as your pregnancy friends or family members as long as you are growing appropriately. When your uterus grows and gets larger at an appropriate rate, it shows that your baby is growing well inside of your uterus.
Braxton-Hicks contractions are going to get stronger and more frequent within the next few weeks. Braxton-Hicks contractions feel like a tightening at the top of your uterus that spreads down and then relaxes. Many women mistake Braxton-Hicks contractions for true labor contractions, but this is rarely the case. Braxton-Hicks contractions will diminish if you get up and walk around and they should not be painful.
Your baby's hair continues to get longer and thicker. Your baby's hair color probably is not going to be the same color from birth onwards, so you should expect it to change in color. Your baby is shedding most of lanugo, but the amount of vernix caseosa is increasing. Your baby is taking calcium from you to lay down lots of bone. Continue to take your prenatal vitamins and drink milk to ensure that you receive enough calcium.
If you were to deliver your baby now, it would probably be called a pre-term infant instead of premature. The only difference is in the maturity, particularly lung maturity. A pre-term baby is less likely to need intensive care because its lungs have developed. Doctors can test lung maturity with an amniocentesis that checks levels of surfactant.
The baby now rests on your uterus and is no longer floating.
Fingernails now reach over the finger tips and the baby can scratch itself.

35 wks 3 days - not long now!
Wednesday 2nd April 35 weeks 2 days
Can't believe its less than 5 weeks until new baby is due. I finished work on Sunday 23rd March after working 2 night shifts. Baby is moving about alot and my weight gain is now 1 stone and 8 pounds. I saw my Consultant last week and had a scan, baby growing well. Bump very big but i feel fine. By evening i get tired and bump feels heavy and tight but during the day i'm fine. I've packed my hospital bag and have washed all the small baby grows, vests, scratch mitts and hats etc. We have bought the size 1 nappies and have still to buy a new change mat and a moses basket.
Bump at 35 weeks
Pregancy information: week 35 of being pregnant - The placenta has reached maturity, has stopped growing, and now begins to age.
You
You are probably feeling pretty tired and cumbersome by now. You may be feeling anxious or irritable and have mood swings again. You may also feel a heavy dragging feeling in your pelvis, as the weight of your baby bears down. You may be experiencing vivid and unsettling dreams, which is your mind's way of adapting to an approaching life change. A watery fluid may start leaking from your breast. This is colostrum and is the first breast milk you produce, usually after the birth.
Sometimes, particularly in second and subsequent pregnancies, it's produced several weeks before labour. You may find that pressure from the baby's head causes you to leak a tiny amount of urine. Your baby can by now recognise and react to simple songs. Try singing a nursery rhyme to see if it affects her. If your bump aches you could be straining the ligaments that support the uterus. Avoid lifting and standing for long periods and you could try using a support belt.
Your baby
Your baby has spent the last two weeks growing in preparation for birth. Your baby responds very strongly to pain, light and sound. The volume of amniotic fluid shrinks as she fills almost all the space in your womb. The placenta has reached maturity, has stopped growing, and now begins to age. At birth it will weigh about one sixth of your baby's weight.
Your baby's intestine fills with a dark green, sticky substance called meconium (made of dead cells and waste from the liver and bowel). She may pass this during labour if she becomes distressed. Her lungs are fully formed but still need to mature.
Your baby's skin is becoming less transparent and more pink rather than red. Toes and fingernails are now fully grown. She produces cortisol to help the lungs develop in preparation for birth. A boy's testicles will drop into the scrotum and a girl's breasts and sexual organs may be swollen by hormones. They will shrink after the birth. Your baby will be gaining 1oz a day now.

Baby Shower tomorrow!
Friday 4th April - 35 weeks 4 days
Hello,
My sister Joanne has organised a baby shower for me tomorrow afternoon at her house. We have some friends coming over and she has organised some games for us to play which will be fun.
