Watched TV and had a chinese takeaway as usual on a Saturday night and felt fine.....until i woke at at 2am in alot of pain!
For the past 4 months or so i had been getting alot of pain under my right rib cage. Most of the time, i was aware of a swollen feeling also.
At night i would often wake up in severe pain, crushing my ribs and you couldn't breath properly.
It would normally go off in about 1 -1.5 hours.
I had an altrasound scan on the 3rd September which showed multiple small gallstones and a diseased gallbladder.
That week i had received a letter from the hospital about seeing a surgeon for a gallbladder removal but as it happens i needed emergency treatment!
Getting back to the Saturday night( well now Sunday morning!) i got out of bed at 2am and went to the living room having taking some paracetamol and ibuprofen and settled down to watch some TV.
The pain just didn't go away this time, coming constantly almost like a labour contraction but without it stopping!
I couldn't get comfortable and i even lay on the floor to try and ease the pain. At 4.30am ( 2 1/2 hours after it started) i woke John and by this time i couldn't breath properly and was feeling very nauseated also.
I went to A&E and was taken through to a treatment room quite quickly. I was in the waiting room for about 10 mins which was full of young, drunk boys who had been in fights etc. One of them even made a comment as i got called through quickly!
I'm a nurse in this hospital so i knew alot of the staff in A&E which is quite reassuring.
I was hooked up to the monitor and had my vital signs (Blood Pressure etc) taken every 15 mins.
I was given some IV Paracetamol but that didn't do very much. The nurses were all very nice. I then saw a doctor and was given some IV Morphine and oxygen. It certainly helped with the pain but it didn't go away fully. Due to this i was seen by a surgical doctor who then admitted me to a surgical ward.
I got to the ward at about 7.30am and met a nice patient called Betty who would become a good friend over the next few days.
I was seen by a consultant surgeon and he diagnosed me with acute cholecystitisis which is an inflammation of the gallbladder due to my gallstones.
Mum and Joanne came to visit in the afternoon which was lovely, Dad was looking after the boys and John had to go into work.
In the evening John came to visit and my mum and dad babysat the boys. When they arrived at the house, Ross started to shout Mummy, Mummy as he thought it would be me back home! Poor wee boy!
I remained nil by mouth for the rest of the day and was due for surgery to remove the gallbladder the next day (Monday afternoonn).
I was given Tramadol which is a strong painkiller, alongwith with ibuprofen and paracetamol.
I fasted all night and was given early tea and toast but unfortunately they couldn't operate the next day as i was on the emergency theatre list but due to a very busy day operating on the Sunday i wouldn't get my operation until late on the Monday evening so it was delayed until Tues 29th Sept (Our 8th Wedding Anniversary!)
My Monday Hospital Journal will follow soon
Bye for now

We had a lovely time at Cameron's Christening. The service was at St J. Cameron looked lovely in the kilt that mum had bought him and he wore a cute shirt/waistcoat and kilt socks.
Ross was funny in the church as he kept asking questions and everyone thought he was so cute!! Owen was good also. They went to sunday school with john, myself and cameron during the rest of the service as their too young to sit through the whole service.
Later we went back to Joanne and Chris's and had a nice buffet lunch.

We had a lovely time at the party. Dad was really surprised when he came through the door, he thought he was attending a friend's anniversary celebration! It was at the LM and the buffet was lovely, lots to choose from. The disco was also very good and we all enjoyed ourselves.
