Sam's 1-Month Check Up posted on 07/31/2007
We went in for Sam's check up to see how much he grew. All of us were guessing he weighed around 8 pounds. The newborn diapers were starting to get smaller, and it was like it happened overnight. Will was very protective of his little brother. As the nurse was taking Sam's vitals, he kept asking, "What are you doing?" I took Sam out to be weighed and he was 10 pounds 2.5 ounces! I couldn't believe he was over 10 pounds...he gained 3 pounds since his 10 day check up! When his doctor came in she said he is very aware of his environment and has a very protective big brother. She wanted to make sure he wasn't in there when Sam had to get his shot. So Nick to him out to get stickers. I told her we had to go for his rescreen on his hearing on August 13th. She said she thought he'd be fine that most of the time those tests at the hospital produce a false negative. She also said his heart murmur sounded softer, so she felt like it could be closed up by 6 months. I always hate the shots! Especially the first. Sam had a delayed reaction when the shot first went in, then he just screamed. I couldn't wait for the nurse to get the bandaid on, so I could pick him up. He stopped crying as soon as I picked him up, that made me feel better. He has to get 4 shots at the next trip the end of August!

Will's First Catch! posted on 07/28/2007
We were invited to friends of my mom's and Mike's who have a private lake to take Will on his first fishing trip. I captured video of the precious moment when he caught his first little Blue Gill (see the movies section!). He caught a total of three fish that day...the last was by far the smallest I've seen caught...about 2 inches. We threw it back and told him we have to wait for him to get bigger. He was so proud though! He actually caught it all by himself. He cast the line out on his own and reeled it in all by himself! He kept with it for several hours. Granted, he hooked grandma Ginger in the back of the leg, her foot, his clothes, and daddy's butt, but he had a grand ol' time and can't wait to do it again!

Willism #2 (documented anyway!) posted on 07/17/2007
Will has been spending the middle of the week with baby Sam and I at home. It's a challenge anymore to get him to take a nap. He's afraid he's going to miss something. Today he was as stubborn as usual and I closed his door for him to hopefully take a nap and for some quiet time. I could hear him in his room playing and didn't feel like fighting him today. So, he emerged from his room and I knew he hadn't taken a nap. He told me though..."I had a good day nap, Mommy." I told him..."You're lyin' Will. I know you didn't take a nap. I could hear you playing with your toys." He replied..."I am a lion...rrroarrr!" I had no response. Just a chuckle to myself. Motherhood is grand!

"I know Buddy" posted on 07/14/2007
Will enjoys getting to sit next to his brother in the back seat. He keeps me posted if he's asleep or spits out his binky...etc. He's heard me talking to Sam when he's starting to get hungry or fussy as we're driving home. Tonight as we were getting close to home, and Sam was starting to fuss a little, Will said to him..."I know Buddy, we're almost home." Sam was quiet for the rest of the way!

Grant's Farm posted on 07/12/2007
Today we had our second outing. This time we met Leanne and her two boys at Grant's Farm. She was in town and it was a beautiful day, so we wanted to go somewhere outside. We only had a few hours in the morning, so we decided Grant's Farm would be a good choice. She had never been there before, and Will hadn't been there since he was about 4 months old. The boys really enjoyed the Tram ride...well Sam slept the entire visit! We were within arms reach of Buffalo! It was crazy. I'm going to start calling these Willisms...cute or funny things he says in his journey of talking! Willism #1 - As we were getting ready for Grant's Farm, I asked Will if we should put Baby Sam in a Mickey Mouse shirt...I had already picked out a Mickey Mouse shirt for Will to wear and he was already wearing it. Because Sam is so small, I have limited options with his clothes right now. I found a Mickey Mouse onsie that wouldn't look too big on him. Will's response, and I quote... "I think that's a perfect idea Mommy. Babies love Mickey Mouse shirts!"

Sam's 10 day check up posted on 07/10/2007
Sam had his first trip to the doctor today. Big Brother Will came along and was very helpful. Sam weighed in at 7 lb 2.6 oz and 20 1/4 inches. The doctor said he is doing great. He's in the 75th percentile for his height and 25th for his weight. She said he was going to be tall and slender! He'll go back the end of the month for his follow up check up.

One week - Into motherhood again! I forgot about the late night feeding every couple hours! It really wipes you out. Will has been a great help. It's at that great age where he loves his little brother and wants to help anyway he can. He holds him and says, "I think he likes me." It's just precious. He always wants to touch him and kiss on him. I've got some great pics of them together. Sam seems to be adjusting quite well. His nursing schedule and diapers are by the book. I'm hoping all the worrying I did our last day in the hospital will be the extent of it. We have to go for his 10 day check up next week, so I'm anxious to see how big he is then. We've had to buy preemie clothes for him because he just swims in all the 0-3 month clothes. Will barely got to wear 0-3 months because he was almost 9 lbs. when he was born! The second time around is definitely not as difficult as the first, but it is more tiring.

Rock-A-Bye Baby posted on 07/05/2007
Brotherly Love - I'll also hold Sam on my lap with my knees up and Will will sit behind my legs and sing "Rock-A-Bye Baby" to his baby brother and rock my legs back and forth. It's just too cute.
