Day 13,

Ronan's progress has gone a little downhill today but it's to be expected.. He "might" have an infection because of the medication they are giving him for his valve (it's a side effect) so they are/have been giving him antibiodics to make sure it doesn't turn into one..

I changed his nappy today and of course his bowels are working (lucky me!) and his still urinating which apparently can slow down when on the medication but it hasn't and he's still weeing fine, so the kidneys and bowels are functioning just fine! They did an x-ray today when i was there for his valve and we will find out later tonight the results of that, so i will update with that news..

They finally weighed him and he was 1140 & is now 1166.. Not a huge amount of weight put on but that is because of his valve but it's still something non the less.. Smile

Day 12,

Ronan is going well today besides a temprature earlier on but that has since gone down.. He is still on his medication and the nurse verified today that his valve had closed a little..

She mentioned that it looks like he has put on weight since he was first born so he may just have the right metabolism for the growth that he needs at this point..

Other than that he is still on 12mls every 2hrs so it's all pretty good today! *fingers crossed* he continues down the healthy path.. Wink

Day 11 (continued),

Well we went and saw our little boy tonight and he is still on 12ml every 2 hrs so that is good news.. He finally had his scan done this afternoon and his valve has closed a little so they are proceeding with his medication.. The fact that it is a tiny bit smaller is great news to us! :)

Other than that there is no more news, but i am sure there will be more tomorrow!

Day 11,

Well i just got back from the hospital after visiting Ronan. He is going well and looks great since he doesn't have anymore jaudance.

He is still up and down with his breathing but that is because of his valve. They hadn't done the scans on him yet to see if the valve has closed but if they arn't done until tomorrow they will be giving him another dose of the medication anyways. It looks like he will need another course but that is apparently common so im happy to do what they think is best.

He is now up to 12mls of milk every 2hrs so it keeps going up everyday which is great but because of his valve (PDA) it may decrease again, but only time will tell.

They did another brain scan and that has come back clear so he hasn't had any ruptures or leaks (thank god) so that made me very relieved to hear that.

He was trying to open his eyes the whole time i was there today, and he was getting frustrated because they wouldn't stay open for very long, but he is trying! Smile

There might be news when we go back tonight (he might have had his scan) so i will update again if he has and what the outcome is. Wink

Day 10,

We went and saw Ronan around 12ish today before we headed off to a family meal and he was looking very healthy all things considered..

They have changed his feeds to 8ml every 2hrs so they keep going up! I don't think they will go up to much more until they have closed his valve (PDA) because it presses on his lungs and makes them work too hard.. He is in natural air but also on 23 to 30% oxygen only because of his valve problem again. He will be having his scan done tomorrow to see if it has closed at all and if it hasn't (the doctor still heard a murmur today) they will more than likely give him another dose of the medication (another 6 days worth) which apparently is quite common..

He was trying really hard to open his eyes today (we just missed it with the camera) but his right eye is still a little stuck but he is trying really hard to open them and it's beautiful!

I will update again tomorrow after we hear how the scan went..

PS. there is a new photo from today called "day 10".. Smile

Day 9,

We just got back from our visit and whilst he is still on medication they have his feeds up to 6mls every 2hrs which is brilliant! Very Happy

We were shocked because as we were about to leave the nurse asked if i had held him yet (which i hadn't, even at birth) so she let me have a hold as you can see with pictures attached! I got to hold him but Fett got to give him his first kiss, so we were both very happy.. Very Happy Very Happy

Day 8,

Well i just went and saw him with Fetts aunty and there was a 23.5wk old baby there.. It was sooooooo sad because it was so so small and they said it was the smallest they have ever taken in.. Anything 23wks and under they said they have never seen survive so far! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Ronan is going fantastic! It looks like the bleeding has stopped and they should be taking him off the antibiodics or whatever it was today rather than continue the next 2 days treatment.. His bloods came back and his kidney levels are a little lower than they want but they said that would be because of the medication he is on, hence another reason they want to stop it!

All in all he looks fabulous and they will be taking the oxygen tube out of his nose over the weekend.. Another doctor came and saw him and said he's progressing further than anticipated so i was really happy to hear that.. Very Happy

Day 8 (evening),

Well we just got back from seeing him and the good news hasn't continued into the night sadly.. Sad

It isn't all bad news just that they did a scan on his valve and it still hasn't closed yet.. He has to have 6 doses (6 days) worth and he's on day 5 today (well tonight because they wanted to do the scan before giving him more).. Confused
They said days ago that alot of the time bubs have to have 2 lots (12 total) days worth of this drug for it to close so if they need to continue it then i just hope it works otherwise he has to have a small operation.. Confused

Anyways that is the news and im a little down! It's to be expected and as the nurses say it's "2 steps forward, 1 step back" everyday.. Very Happy
