Day 59, Well what a lovely mothers day i had being able to cuddle Ronan, it certainly wasn't what i expected 2 months ago but i loveeeeeeed it.. I was given a card by the staff at NICU with a picture of Ronan and a big heart inside the card! Not much to report other than he had a great day with his breathing and only had a few desats so he is getting stronger each day..

Day 60, Well when we arrived to see Ronan tonight he was wearing NOTHING! No breathing machines just himself breathing totally on his own..!!!! They wanted to test to see how long he would last before getting too tired to cope and he lasted 4 1/2hrs which is exciting.. This is the big step towards him never having to wear CPAP ever again.. He had a bad desat when we were there but he was fine after he was suctioned a little.. We gave him a bath and weighed him at 2720 grams!! We did all of this whilst he was wearing no breathing help and he did fantastic (besides pooping in the bath).. hehehe I would say they will try the breathing on his own again in another day or two.. Total Weight Gain To Date: 1580 grams

Day 58, Ronan had his bath today and Poppa Jim got to see him for the first time enjoying his bath! He threw a little tanty at first but was like that when we first walked in the room but he soon calmed.. He was weighed and is now 2613 grams!! He had another great day of breathing and we only saw one real desat and we couldn't believe our eyes when we looked at the chart! I am hoping that this is the turn around everyone has been telling us will come so please pray that he stays on the up hill.. For those that knew about my lack of milk and how i was starting to stress because he is now on 45mls every 3hrs, well i am now taking tablets the doctor prescribed and i actually took in 340mls of milk today (bit better than the 200mls i was only able to produce) so it is a HUGE relief..

Day 57, WoW i can't believe it has been almost 60 days since Ronan was born! We have some good new, Ronan had the best day on record today since he was born! He had around 3 desaturations as apposed to 20/30.. The doctors took the CPAP off him and let him lay there for 2hrs without anything (no low flow either) but he didn't handle it too well.. As soon as he was on CPAP he was flying again! The doctors believe that Ronan will let them know when he is ready for the next oxygen shift and whilst they don't want to rush him, they need him to start weaning off the CPAP! I think the fact that they even tried this was a milestone today.. Mark and i had a lovely hold tonight only he slept the whole time! The room he is in seems to keep him calm and sleepy, so maybe it's a good thing as the more sleep he gets the more he grows and gives his lungs time to mature.. We were there for his feed at 7pm and i was there holding the dummy in his mouth.. He certainly is a good sucker and you can hear and feel the force of him sucking whilst being fed through the tube.. I really hope after the rollercoaster we have been on that he is a brilliant feeder and we have no problems breastfeeding..

Day 56, Well Ronan had a lovely bath last night and enjoyed every moment.. He certainly likes his baths which is fantastic.. After the initial shock of being naked and having a small cry he doesn't make a sound.. He had a relatively good day again with his breathing so hopefully if he continues to progress he will go onto Low Flow again for a few hrs a day.. He was weighed, and his length was measured and he has certainly grown.. Weight: 2552 grams (born at 1140 grams)
Length: 46 cms (born at 37.5cms)
Head: 32 cms (born at 25cms) His feeds are now averaging around 43mls every 3hrs so it is helping him along with his weight! Apparently he is on par with what weight, height etc he should be for his gestational age.. Total Weight Gain To Date: 1412 grams

Day 55, Ronan FINALLY had a great day today! looking at his chart he hardly had any desaturations (low levels in oxygen) and was very very stable, so we are hoping this is his road to recovery.. I had a lovely hold tonight and of course he fell asleep again.. His feeds have now changed pattern and he is being fed every 3hrs with 45mls each feed and is tollerating it beautifully..

Day 54, Ronan had another crappy day today, pretty bad actually with his oxygen etc.. It was the worst we have seen him up & down since the first week of birth.. They have started to give him some special medicine in his milk which is like caffine for the brain to trigger the part of his brain to start breathing.. Almost every premmie has this medicine when they are so small because they don't normally get this function happening until they are 35/36wks however being premmie their brain has to start so much earlier.. He was weighed again today and now weighs 2478 grams! Total Weight Gain To Date: 1338 grams

Day 53, Ronan had a pretty crappy day again today and doesn't seem to have improved since yesterday.. He was asleep the whole time we were there so we didn't stay for very long.. The doctor spoke to us and told us that he has a hernia (apparently common in premmie males) so he has to have an operation shorty before he comes home.. Other than that, there is no more news..
