Just in time for Halloween creepy crawlies
posted on 10/21/2007
Mia has mastered creeping and started crawling! After about a month of scooting, flipping, and rocking our little girl is taking off in a full fledged crawl. Almost without fail, if you put her down anywhere in the family room she will crawl directly to her little toy piano (her new favorite toy) and start playing.
She also got her two bottom teeth. Mia pretty much eats everything, save a few allergen taboos. She never liked baby food so we just skipped it. She's much more interested in what is on our plates. Our little princess prefers to have food fed to her rather than picking it up herself. While she puts everything in the world in her mouth, if it's food it just gets picked-up and thrown on the ground.
Grandma Ria made her the most adorable flower Halloween costume (see pics). She was a hit at the pumkin patch, and can't wait to trick-or-treat on the Junction (the businesses in our neighborhood do a trick-or-treat thing that is really cute. Len calls it Mardi Gras for kids).

Mia is now 7 months old and such a big girl. She is very interested in everything around her and loves to watch and take everything in. She is also very busy grabbing everything she can get her hands on and putting them in her mouth. She is pretty content with sitting up and reaching for whatever is within range, but if she is on her tummy she will scoot backwards and all around. So not quite crawling yet, but working on it.
Last month she had her official baby naming where we discussed the significance of her name, Mia Suzanne, as well as gave her the Hebrew name, Ahava (beloved). It was a lovely ceremony, and Mia was a perfect little angel wrapped in her late-grandpa's tallis. (check-out the pictures).
She is starting to enjoy some new foods. Still not eating a lot, but working up to it. She recently discovered cheese, and of course, it is a hit - she is her mother's daughter! Still no teeth yet.

They say it goes fast, and it's true. Mia really seems like a different baby these days. She has finally started napping for two hours (in the morning) - yeah! She is able to support herself sitting up for short periods of time and really enjoying her toys (and anything she can grab) from this vantage point.
Recently she tried her first rice cereal and I think is a fan (despite the furrowed brow and funny faces). She knows just what to do with a spoon.

It really seems like Mia has transitioned from being a newborn to a full fledged baby. She has much more alert time during the day and sleeps more at night (sometimes up to 6-7 hours). She recognizes familiar faces and follows them as they move. We are also starting to catch some meaningful smiles - especially on the changing table. Yes, she enjoys a good diaper change and also really loves her bath.
