So, this far into your first year at school and it seems you are pretty popular. You're teacher says that everybody likes you and you are a delight to have in class. But the names I keep hearing are that of Cale and Nicolas. We'll see if that will last.

So we are into another soccer season. This year is different. Last year you didn't get into it very much. Maybe you were too young. Now you are really getting specific coaching and all the kids are really trying to play when it comes to game time. Practice is every thursday and games are early every saturday morning. All the kids on your team are from your school, so it just feels like play time with your friends. You are so proud of having scored in your first game and assisting a score in your second. Dreamy & Pop came to your first game. Go Sharks!

Today we signed your contract from St. Luke's and wrote the enrollment check. It is now official and legally binding that you will attend St. Luke's in the fall and be a shark!

suspicious hair

A week ago, as we were driving home from Baton Rouge you decided to tell Daddy what color hair everybody in the van had. You had brown hair, Daddy had brown hair, Nathan had brown hair (actually he is losing all his hair), and Lexie had yellow hair. Daddy asked you, "What about Mommy? What color is her hair?" You looked thoughtful and had a funny look on your face as you studied me. Then you said, "I'm not sure." It was pretty funny. And for the record ~ Mommy's hair is brown with yellow highlights.

So much progress. At the beginning of the school year you still held your pencil like a club and merely scribbled when asked to draw. But now... You can hold your pencil correctly and draw recognizable figures and faces. You can also write lots of your letters. The Letter Factory video from the library seems to have helped something click with your letters. Now you are recognizing them better and can say their sounds with the right letter. You can figure out the beginning letter of a word from hearing it. 'S' has been hard for your to write, but this past week you mastered it. On Thursday at school you practiced and practiced. You are very much a perfectionist and have to be coached to practice. Now you are writing 'S's' all over the place. I think you will be writing your name very soon! I'm so proud of you.

Soccer is over

Stephen's first soccer season is now over. He did pretty well. There was the occassional whining that he didn't want to go, but I think he enjoyed it. Toward the end of the season he was getting much better about actually running with the ball and other kids and trying to kick the ball as opposed to standing around in his own little world and talking to his shadow.

Their last game was this past Saturday and afterwards they had a pizza party and received a trophy. He was so excited about that trophy! When he got he came over and showed me and said, "Mom, look. It's golden!" (said in a voice of awe) He has been showing it off, but between times keeping it in a special place on the shelf where it is safe and he can see it.

There is a picture of Stephen with one of his coaches and his new trophy in the photo album. Go check it out!
