Golf Tournament
posted on 08/06/2009

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone who came out on Saturday to our Wyatt's Warriors 2nd Annual Golf Tournament, at Newcastle Golf and Country Club.
Wyatt and his friends took care of the weather and gave us a beautiful sunny day, we could not have asked for better weather.

We had a lot of fun despite it being a very emotionally tough day.  All the golfers had fun (some more than others I think :) ) and some even provided us with some entertainment throughout the evening (thank you Andrew :) ) We had an awesome little guy, Gavin, our youngest golfer ever, which was great.  Gavin is the amazing big brother of one of Wyatt's little heart friends, Owen.   He did a great job on the course all day!  We hope to see you out there showing your little brother the ropes next year buddy!

I also want to thank everyone who took the time to help out as well, whether leading up to the event, collecting donations, recruiting golfers, or on the day of, helping selling tickets, manning holes, setting up the auction, etc.  Everyone was a big help, this year in particular. We had a beautiful slideshow done as well,by my pro slideshow maker, but unfortuantely, because of the beautiful sunshine, we couldn't see it until the end of the night :(  I am sorry everyone didn't get to enjoy it, but it will be there next time, and we will figure out how to make it so that we can see it, even in the sun!  If space will allow, I will see if I can get it on here in the meantime.

So, thank you again to everyone who came out, our sponsors, donors, volunteers, everyone!  Than you to Andrew and Barak from Investor's Group, who had the hole in one set up (sadly no one won the $15, 000 prize :( ).  Thank you to Sherri for the belly dancing show (you are a woman far more brave than I!).  Thank you to Marshall, whose mortgage company, RMA Spencer Group Mortgages, has generously offered to donate 10% of his commission from any sales generated from Wyatt's Warriors, from now until the end of the year. so if you are in need of a mortgage, please contact me, and I can provide you with his info.

We are currently in the process of setting up a "Wyatt's Warriors" site, where you will also find all of this information.  We hope to have it done soon.  I will provide you with the link as soon as its ready!

For anyone who wasn't there and is interested, we have Wyatt's Warriors golf shirts, tank tops and golf balls all for sale.  You can contact me at wyatts-warriors@hotmail.com or 289 404 1021 if you are interested in purchasing anything.  We also still have our awareness jewellry available.

Last but not least, stay tuned for our next event, Wyatt's Warriors 1st Annual Hootenanny Jamfest, August 15th at the Portly Piper Pub in Ajax.  The night will be filled with live entertainment (open mic) and is only $10 to get in.  Tickets are limited, so please get in contact with me for yours! 19 and over only please!  There will be silent auction, raffles, some good fun contests, and great music!  Thanks to our friend Brian, for getting this together.

We love you and miss you so much Wyatt,

Thanks everyone,

Laura

A Week Later
posted on 24/05/2009

Hi everyone,

I do not have too much to say right now, except to thank everyone for their continued outpouring of love and support for Lisa and Wyatt and the rest of our family.  Through the visitations and funeral service, it became very evident the number of lives that Wyatt has touched in his short life.  It was absolutely amazing the people that came out, sent messages, calls, emails, you name it. We of course knew, and have known for a long time, how special and loved Wyatt was by us, but it became very clear how loved he was by so many that we don't even know.

The visitations and service went beautifully, and the service was an amazing tribute to Wyatt.  We would like to thank those who spoke at the service, Dr Schwartz, Susan, Ashleigh, Cortney, Sean, Eric,  myself and my Dad.  A big thank you to Michael, the Chaplin who did the service, who truly took time from a crazy schedule, to come and do this for Wyatt and Lisa.  He did a fantastic job at touching on what Wyatt's life was all about.  For those who don't know, it was very special to us that Michael did the service, because Michael is the Chaplin from SickKids, and knows Wyatt and Lisa very well.  It was important to have him, as no one else would have known Wyatt on a personal level, like Michael does.

We were just amazed at the number of staff who came from SickKids, and it sounds funny, but I truly wonder who staffed the CCCU that day, because I think most of them were at the service.  It was amazing to see that Wyatt was not only loved by us, "his family", but also truly by his family at SickKids.  And that they truly were, and are, a part of his family, our family now, because of Wyatt.

Thank you to the staff at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens, who guided us in arranging things, put up with my 600 phone calls and questions, allowed Lisa to spend more time with Wyatt, and for keeping things running smoothly.

The obituary was published in Wednesdays paper, but I cannot find it online, so I thought I would put it here for anyone who has not seen it and would like to.

There was an adorable picture of Wyatt with it, but I can't get that on here :(

CELSIE - SWANTON, Wyatt (April 27, 2007 - May 16, 2009)

On Saturday May 16, 2009 at 6:56pm, our brave handsome hero passed away peacefully in his Mummy's arms at SickKids Hospital, surrounded by those who love him.  Wyatt, loving son of Lisa Celsie, Loved Grandson of Roni (Doug), Blaine (Karen).  Cherished Nephew of Laura (John), Colin, Andrew, Amy (Joe).  Dear Cousin of Sean, Eric, Gabriella and Nolan.  Wyatt will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, and all the hearts that he touched.  Wyatt, a true warrior, will fondly be remembered for his strength, bravery, will, and by his beautiful smile, his love of bubble baths, movies, sweets, playing stinky feet and doing things his way.  Funeral Services were held at Mount Lawn Reception Center, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby, 904 443 3376.  In memory of Wyatt, donations to the SickKids CCCU would be greatly appreciated.

Many people have asked me if the golf tournament was going to be cancelled.  ABSOLUTELY NOT.  Wyatt would want it to go on, that I know for sure.  And I promised him, that I would never stop fighting the very things that took him from us, and I will keep that promise.  Having said that, please remember that I need registrations by Sunday May 31st.  That is only 1 week from now.  I need names, payments etc by then.
Golf is $130 per person, including golf, cart and steak dinner                         Those of you who do not golf can join us for $30 per person for dinner.         Vegetarian options are available.

There will be a silent auction, raffles, door prizes, a meat draw and a putting contest open to everyone.  On the golf course, there will be a longest drive, closest to the pin, hole in one, and closest to the heart contest.

We are going to have a great day as a tribute to Wyatt and all he has taught us.  Please come out and show Wyatt and Lisa and all the other CHD families your support.  Contact me at 289 404 1021 or wyatts-warriors@hotmail.com to register.  Teams of 4 are preferred, but not required.  We can pair you up.  Help us reach our goal of $20000 this year.  Wyatt is counting on us.

We Love You Wyatt...
posted on 17/05/2009

It is with a very heavy heart that I write to you all.

On Saturday May 16th, around 7pm, our brave, strong, beautiful, amazing little Warrior, Wyatt, lost his battle with Congenital Heart Disease, and passed away peacefully in his Mummy's arms, surrounded by people that love him.

Wyatt is one amazing little boy, who will be missed so much, by so many.  His 2 years here with us were a rollercoaster ride to say the least, but one that brought us so much joy and happiness, and taught us so much about life, and what is important.  He taught us all how to be brave and strong, and that no matter how bad we think we have it, there is always someone worse off than you.  Through everything, Wyatt still had a beautiful smile, and loved his Mummy more than anything in this world.  We miss him SO much already.

The arrangements have been made, and are as follows,

Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens

21 Garrard Rd

Whitby, ON L1N 3K4

905 665 0600

Tuesday May 19th, Viewings are from 2-4pm and 6-8pm

Wednesday May 20th, the funeral will be held at 10am with reception to follow

Donations to SickKids Cardiac Critical Care Unit in Wyatt's Memory would be greatly appreciated.

Everything is taking place at Mount Lawn.  You can find directions here http://www.mountlawn-cemetery.ca/Location.aspx?SiteID=4001

Thank you everyone for your love and support during Wyatt's life, and we know we can count on you still, as we all struggle to deal with losing Wyatt, especially Lisa.

Let us not forget as amazing of a boy Wyatt is, so too was his Mummy absolutely amazing... an amazing team, and a team that loved each other more than anything or anyone else in this world.

Let us also not forget, that this is exactly why we must continue our fight against CHD's.  I know that Wyatt would want that more than anything.  We will continue to honor Wyatt's memory every single day.

I know that I miss him so much already, and I think that everyone in the family is just numb right now.  We hope that you will join us to celebrate Wyatt's life this week at the services.

We would like to thank all the amazing Nurses, Drs, RTs, OT's, PT's, everbody at SickKids for there amazing care for Wyatt and Lisa, and for loving Wyatt, as was very evident every day, but especially yesterday.  A special thanks to Nurse Dianne, Nurse Natalie, and Dr Ben, and all the others who were there yesterday, for making the worst day ever, as good and peaceful as it could possibly be.

I will continue to update his sites,

Laura

Having A Really Hard Time...
posted on 15/05/2009

Hi everyone,

I thought it was time for an update on our little man.

You might remember that on my last update (before Mother's Day) I mentioned that Wyatt was pretty sick, and that they could not decide or figure out what was going on with him.  Not too much has changed really since then.  They have had him on the two strongest antibiotics as well as a third, and treated him for infection, despite the fact that nothing new other than his pseudomonis and stenotreptonomis (or something like that lol) was growing in the cultures, which are both things he has all the time, and they never really affect him.  Anyhow, they treated him for those, in case they were bothering him.  He has fluctuated btween having high temperatures and low temperatures, and has been very sleepy.  He has been desatting a lot, especially with suctioning.  They have been giving him medazolam with suctioning to try to keep him calmer and prevent the desatting from being so profound.  There still has really not been any decision made as to whether this is infection related or heart related, and we just have to wait it out and see what Wyatt does.

He is still enjoying his bath for the most part, and even handing out the odd smile to Lisa.  He is sleeping a lot and not tolerating the ltv or trache mask, so he has not been going for walks.

Our thoughts this week are with the family of Grady, another little friend of Wyatt's, who lost his fight with his CHD earlier this week.  We ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they make preparations to say goodbye to their son.

In regards to visiting, visitors are limited to immediate family due to infection control right now, it is just too risky.  ANYONE (yes this includes immediate family) who wishes to visit Wyatt MUST MUST MUST call me (Laura) first, and check and make sure it is ok to go.  Multiple visitors at a time are not allowed, and therefore I need to make sure everyone goes at different times, and again, need to re iterate that if you are, or have been sick, or around someone who has been or is sick, YOU CANNOT GO!!!  Wyatt or any of the other children there cannot take the chance of picking up any other germs, they just can't handle them.  You can call me at 289 404 1021.

If you go down without calling me first, you will not get in.  The nurses will know who is able to come each day.

I would also like to take a moment to remind everyone that the Wyatt's Warriors 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament is coming up quick!  It is less than 3 weeks away now, and only 2 weeks left to register.  Please contact me at 289 404 1021 or wyatts-warriors@hotmail.com to register or for more information.  We need your help to fill the course, and raise money for the Cardiac Critical Care Unit at SickKids, and also this year, we will be rasing money for a family affected by Congenital Heart Defects.  Don't miss our awesome day of fun, our great silent auction, prizes and contests.  Please come out and show Wyatt and his friends your support.

I will update again soon,

Laura

A Really Tough Time
posted on 04/05/2009

Hi everyone,

I thought I should give an update as to Wyatt's last week or so.  He has been having a really really rough time.  It has progressively been getting worse, and no one seems 100% certain what is going on.  It started out looking like he was getting another infection, so they have sent all the cultures, blood, BAL, urine, to be cultured for everything, viral and bacterial, a couple of times now.  Nothing has come back on those cultures yet, which is kind of echoing what happened back in February, when he was SO sick, but nothing ever did grow, and they treated him with antibiotics, and he got better... yet another Wyatt mystery....  so, they started him on the two strongest antibiotics there are, on Thursday, in hopes that they may help whatever this is.  He has been fluctuating between high temps and lower than normal temps, he is sleeping most of the time, and only wakes up briefly, gets suctioned and then goes into a downword spiral with his sats.   Yesterday he had many episodes of going down into the single digits, and then sitting in the 20's and 30's for quite a while before slowly getting into the 50's and 60's.  It was generally taking him over an hour to get back up.  He is on 100% o2 and his vent settings are all up.  He has not been peeing as much as he should be, even with increased dieuretics.  They decided yesterday to do another nasal swab ths morning to check for viruses again, so we will see what that says.  They also decided to keep him sedated around the clock in order to try and keep him more calm and his sats up, until they figure out what is going on.  Of course the other option is that this could be his heart.  They did an echo, but that was unchanged from the last one, so there is really no way to tell.  They have increased his morphine to keep him comfortable and are giving him chloral around the clock.  his heart rate is up a bit, and blood pressure was up and down yesterday.   He has not been doing his trache mask or ltv vent the last few days either, due to him not tolerating being on them.   His color is mottled and he goes very blue when he desats.

Due to all that is going on and the fact that they cannot figure out what it is, they are restricting visitors for now to just Lisa.  They do not want to risk introducing any further germs to him, just in case, as he could certainly not handle that right now, especially with the nasty things that are going around right now.  So please, send your best wishes along to them through this site or caringbridge, or you can call ME.  Please do not call Lisa as she is very busy with Wyatt and the Drs right now.   Please assume these restrictions are in place until I post otherwise. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation on this matter.  It is really important for Wyatt

Please say many prayers for Wyatt and Lisa as they try to figure out what it is that is going on, that they will get some answers, and for their strength.

I will update when we know more

Laura
