Surgery Update # 3
posted on 10/04/2008

HI everyone

Ok, its 5:45pm, and here is my latest update

I am still in the OR.  Right now, I am just sort of waiting.  Dr VanArdsell put the Artificial Pulmonary Artery in, he unifocallized my MAPCAS to it, he knicked something by accident, but he fixed it, and he closed both my ASD and VSD.  Right now I am waiting because I am bleeding a lot, and my pressures are high.  He wants to wait a couple hours and see if my pressures go down or not.  And also wait for the bleeding to stop.  If my pressures do not go down, they may have to put some of the holes back, maybe smaller than they were, but still leave them there.  If they go down, then hopefully we can leave the holes closed.  So, he may have to do something with my holes, or he may not, we will see in a couple hours.  Also, because I have been in surgery so long, and so much has been poked, proded, moved around, etc, I am very swollen inside, so they may not be able to close my chest, and it might have to stay open for 5 days or so.  This isn't the greatest thing, but it is not uncommon in someone who has had surgery as long as I have.  So right now we need to hope that my pressures go down, and we can leave the holes closed, so that it won't be an extra surgery again for me later.  We really need all this to work, and improve my heart function.    So, now, Dr VanArdsell is having a break, the other surgeon and nurses are staying with me, and he will check my pressures again at 7pm, and then decide what to do.  It has been a VERY long day!  They also lost a needle, so they are not sure if they lost a needle inside me, or if they lost it in the room.  Sometimes this happens, so they did an xray to see if they saw it in me, and they didn't, so he said in a couple days they would do a full body x ray to make sure it wasn't anywhere, that it hadn't moved.  Depending on where it was, if it was inside me, would decide if they had to take it out or not.  They cleaned out my soroma, and also tested it for infection, and that was negative.

That is all for now, I know he did more than that, but has not explained it all to Mummy, so once we are entirely done, Dr VanArdsell will explain everything to Mummy totally, and I will come back and update again then.  Right now Mummy is just really anxious to see me

Love,

Wyatt
