The Walkathon..
posted on 28/09/2009
Hi everyone,
Just thought it was time for me to give a little update. We had our first annual Wyatt's Warriors Walkathon yesterday, and it was a success. We had great weather, the rain held off for us, and we had lots of fun. We raised $10000 for SickKids Cardiac Critical Care Unit :) If there is anyone who still wants to donate, the online sponsor page is still open for now. You can find it here, and make a donation, any amount counts, and you will get an instant tax receipt. https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/LoginRegister.aspx?EventID=38698&LangPref=en-CA THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you to everyone who came out to walk, everyone who sponsored walkers, and all our donors. A special thank you to everyone who helped out yesterday, and made the day run smoothly. Thank you to those of you who came out who also have little warrior angels.. I know it is not easy sometimes to come to these kinds of things, and we really appreciate you being there. Thank you to Osami (one of Wyatt's surgeons) who came out with his family, and Suzie (one of Wyatt's nurses) who came out with her family. We love that Wyatt's hospital family, is still a part of our family.
Thank you to Johnny's North End Burgers, who helped provide the food, To Long and McQuade for the Audio equipment, to Pelican Catering who loaned us their giant BBQ, and to all of our prize donors. Thank you to Ron Cross and his drumming band who came out and performed an interactive Drumming show with everyone who was still there, and to Bev, or Bubbles, who came and did face painting before the walk started.
We hope to see all of you back out next year, and a whole lot more!
I think our top fundraisers deserve mention as well..
The Veloso family raised over $3000
Lindsay Olender raised over $1500
and Sean and Eric raised over $700
Thank you to all of them and to everyone else whose hard work paid off, and will help the Cardiac kids at SickKids.
Please stay tuned as work on the Gala now begins... This year it will be on Friday February 12th, at Tosca Banquet Hall in Oshawa. Details will soon follow about entertainment etc.
Please remember to stay tuned to our new site www.wyattswarriors.ca in the upcoming events section.
The day after an event is always bittersweet... You come down from all the craziness and worry of preparing everything, and are reminded and sort of slapped, with reality again, of why we are doing this to begin with, and of the fact that Wyatt is no longer with us. It is a hard thing to swallow. I hope everyone knows how grateful we are to everyone who is helping to keep Wyatt's memory alive, and doing great things in his honor and memory, to help his fellow fighters. We hope that we are honoring all of the now angels, that we knew and loved. We know that Wyatt is watching it all, and hope we are making him proud and happy to know that we won't ever give up.
It is hard to believe that he has been gone four and a half months now. We are coming up on our first sort of holiday without him, Thanksgiving, and I am sure it will be difficult and sad, and tricky to be feeling thankful... So, I know that I for one, will be thankful for all that Wyatt taught me, in his too short life, and for the way he changed my life. I think everyone reading this should take a moment and think about why they are thankful, and what they are thankful for... even where there is much to be "unthankful" for.
I love you poopy,
Laura
